Ospreys Nesting on the Tennessee

We took a few shots of Ospreys setting up housekeeping on the channel buoys near Short Creek on Lake Guntersville. They seemed to ignore us as long as we stayed back 25 yards or so and we enjoyed their acrobatics.
We also saw a deer crossing Short Creek and were surprised at how fast he could swim...

Sadly, we had to cut down our osprey tree (50' tall with a nest box on it) when we built our new house. Our pair (Ozzie and Harriet) raised two young last summer before they migrated. After they left, a couple of eagles checked it out but decided it was too small, I guess.

We did, however put in an extra piling when we put the boat house/lift in, about 25' off shore and between us and the neighbors boat house. When we left VA the first of April, I think it was the same pair we had last year, madly building a new nest on the new box/piling. :love

We're heading south again from Maine in about two weeks and I expect them to be done with construction and happily sitting on a couple of eggs, just like last year. Will post pix when we get there!
