I've been on the St Johns River in Florida for over a week now, and it was worth the long drive from Wisconsin. There are pictures and a journal at http://smittypaddler.com/fl08/index.htm
You do a lot better of a job telling your story than we did.
Nice to see Capt Glenn of the Bold Eagle in your pictures. We met them there in the park as well. Anchored out with them on the back side of the park. He is becoming a volunteer at the park. I think he will run the ferry boat and whatever.
We also found the Fortress anchor was tough to get set down there. I shackled a grapple in front of it and got it to hold. The bruce did a good job. I have now added a 32 lb Danforth with all chain. Sleep better now.
Great tale -- the St. Johns is one special river and you did a great job capturing the 'feel' of place, both with your writing and the pictures --"Life is good" "No room to get sloppy" on a small boat -- your description of the joy of anchoring off the beaten path and the pleasures of life close to nature on a small boat were wonderful. Enjoy your stay in FL. Cheers.
Great pictures! I think that nice little sunken uncared for sailboat is a VENTURE 23. It was a cutter rigged sloop, sailed nicely. I had one in the late '70s early '80s. Too bad!
