Just returned from a week of fishing in and around Nootka Sound on Vancouver Island, with my regular fishing partner, Traci. We did okay; got our possession limit of chinook and two halibut. Our chinook ran from 9-19 pounds, and the halis were 32 and 41 pounds.

There weren't a lot of big fish caught at the camp, only a scattering of upper 20s. I'm sure the unusually hot weather has something to do with it. We couldn't get off shore until the last two days because of the gale force winds. Once we could get out we hit Bajo Reef for lingcod and Beano Creek area for coho, but couldn't find any.

Can't wait to get up there again next year. If anyone is interested in joining us, let me know. We saw Amy Jo again this year, and a fine fellow named Don that has a C-Dory but is not on C-Brats.

Since we didn't get any chinook that were of particular note, we didn't take any pictures of those. All we have are the below pics of Traci's 32 lbs halibut and my 41 lbs halibut. Amy Jo left a day early, and I'm sure the below pics might make them say bad words.

Nice haul Rick and Traci. I was thinking about you guys when we were up at Desolation Sound last week. Wondering if we were gonna pass you on the new inland Hwy last Saturday. I still want to make a return trip up to Nootka, maybe next year. I think Caryn would love it up there. Way to go!

Hi C Dawg, Yes Amy and I are kicking ourselves for not sticking around for another day. After two days of trying to make it to the outside and being forced to turn back I think I lost my nerve. Nice Hali's, looks like your "secret spot" produce well.
There did seem to be a lot of fish on the inside of Nootka. We kept our limit and brought many more to the boat and released. This was our seventh year at Nootka and as always we had a great time.
It was fun visiting with you guys and thanks for sharing your knowledge of the fishing hotspots with us. Hope we see you there next year.

Nice job on the halibut! I really like it up there and would be interested in going sometime. I remember waiting it out to get to the outside, too. If fishing is good inside, no need to go out except for slam bang lingcod, bass and halibut.

I have a Honda 150 on the 25. It does the job, but I will never see fuel mileage like I did on the 22 with twin 40s.
Can't really compare the 22 to the 25 though when it comes to space, storage and comfort for us, anyway. We love the 25!
