Non-Ethanol fuel in Washington

I was happy to find Valv-Tect Non-Ethanol gasoline at the Port Ludlow Marina last Spring. Well, Spring is fast approaching and I'd sure like to tank up on some of that non-corn stuff. There aren't too many places that sell it but here is a list. Just select your area:

Thanks for the info but looking at the search it seems it might not be ethnol free see below. Unless they are putting the ethanol treatment in there for the existing gas that might be in your tank who knows. I suspect all decafe coffee might not be decafe coffee how would we ever know?

I'm not sure if this is true everywhere but the Safeway in Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island sells non-ethanol gas. Might be worth checking at other Safeway stores.
 
I talked to the gentleman that was the previous owner of the 22 cruiser we just purchased and he said that ethanol has cost him almost $2000 in repairs to the Yamahas that he currently has on an aluminum boat. Has anyone else had negative effects as bad as that on their four strokes? I have been running fuel from an ARCO locally for the last four years and sometimes it is a little rough but running at near full throttle for a few minutes always cleans it out. He gave me the location of a place here in Salem that sells non-ethanol that I could buy at if I felt I needed to.
 
I would not put Arco fuel in anything I owned. Maybe in my worst enemy's car.

I think Harvey on Sleepy-C has had problems with carbs on his engines due to Ethonal. We have seen numerous ethonal related issues.

Our recomendation: Use the boat. Don't let fuel get stale. Drain carbs after use to avoid corrosion from ethonal / water mix (highly corrosive). Run Sta Bil marine formula all the time (1 oz on 10 gallons normal use, 1 in 5 for winterization).

This is what I did/do EVERY FILL. I guess I'll find out how it stored when I go pick it up next month. :|
 
I guess I need to go look, but the recommended Stabil addition rate on the container says "1 oz treats 2.5 gallons." Do other folks actually just use 1 oz per 10 gallons? That would be a LOT more economical!

Pat, Local Boy (Mark) is correct. The "Marine" Sta Bil is a different "mix" than the old "red" colored Sta Bil.

When I first became aware of the "Marine" Sta Bil, I had to special order it through NAPA in Arlington since they didn't have it in stock then. Now it is probably more prevalent in stores as it was a fairly new product.

Since moving up here back in '99 I've used the red Stabil in all my VWs, lawn mower, power washer etc since I don't use them during the looooong winter months. The key is to use the proper ratio and run the mixed fuel through the engine for ~10 minutes so it's distributed through out the ENTIRE fuel system; carbs/FI, fuel pumps etc. I have never had any issues with ANY of those engines and my black VW has VERY expensive [European] Weber carbs in it. The blue Stabil is pretty available now and although it's pricey, it's cheaper than a trip to the mechanic. Hopefully, it will work long term w/ the newer fuels.

It's going to be "interesting" what will happen this yr with the proposed increase in ethanol percentage in gas. Personally, I thinks it's driven more by politics than by science or economics.
 
The reason for the change of StaBil formula is that the older Red formula has alchohol (isopropyl) in it. The Blue (marine) formula has no alchohol in it.
 
I just called one of my "suppliers" of non-ethanol gas; Tom Thumb Grocery in Lake Stevens. (God. It sounds like I'm a doper and I have "dealers". RIDICULOUS! This is what radical environmenalism has caused!!!) We would fill the boat up there, as it was the closest to our house. I was told they no longer can get non-ethanol gas as of May 1, 2013. She said it was because of some "new law", but she was vague.

I researched it quickly but could not find it, although that doesn't mean a thing in the Socialist Republic of Washington. :evil: I then called another station in Snohomish. Same thing; he no longer can get non-E gas.

Last call was to Snohomish Farmers Co-Op. They said they still are carrying it. Heading down this evening. I'll report back what I find and how much this will cost per gallon.

Anyone know of any "new law" the commies in Oly have implemented or is this an Owebama "mandate"? And yeah, I'm pissed off. I wish there was a middle finger emoticon....

Just a thought, but you might try to be pissed off at the right people. The ethanol fuel mandate is driven more by corn farmers in the midwest than by "radical environmentalism". Do some digging and find out who lobbies for this.

Now as to the practicalities of getting non ethanol fuel, Everett Marina has it at their pumps (at least they did on Sat).
 
Yep Everett Marina, Snohomish Co-Op, and the Everett Ok Gas & smoke mart all carry it. I usually get my fuel at the Gull at Elger bay Camano island, or in Anacortes at Cap Sante. I have yet to put any ethanol fuel in my boats tanks. It is about .40 cents mroe per gallon and Im told it has to be shipped from the distributer in Tacoma, making it more expensive.

Im not sure, but maybe that store employee was just blowing smoke up yer :smilep
 
Just got back from filling at the Snohomish Co-Op. $4.19/gallon for REGULAR. They also now have SUPREME. They used to get it from Anacortes. Now they truck it all the way up from Tacoma. That is environmentally friendly, isn't it? This is the interesting part; all gas is refined as 100% dyno gas. Ethanol is mixed into it as it is loaded into tanker trucks. BRILLIANT!!!!

I spoke to the guy there. Here's the scoop; Anyone that had a contract w/ Conaco-Phillips out of Anacortes can no longer get non E gas. he said that is pretty much anyone "up north". He said CP is no longer offering it as any dealer that purchases it has to pay an ADDITIONAL TAX OF $0.41 PER GALLON!!!!!!!!!!!! :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: Guess who that tax gets passed on to...so yeah, the corn lobby may have it's greedy hands in this, but there is a certain politcal party involved who never met a tax they didn't like. And no one will convince me otherwise.

Either way I look at this, it's just STUPID POLICY driven by politics & greed and nothing more. The corn producers get subsidized, by us taxpayers, and make a bundle. The tree huggers get to feel all "warm & fuzzy", at our expense, and the pols get the benefit of "see what I did 'for you'". Like I said; STUPID POLICY! If they are gonna screw me, at least buy me dinner first.

And what do we get in return? Gee, we pay more for good fuel or we buy the crap they force down our throats and we get to pay for the repairs that accompany it. Oh, and my corn on the cob costs more too.

God bless America....we need all the help we can get.
