nissan titan

the brochure for the new diesel titan has some pretty nice pics of a ranger tug. I wonder if the boat comes with every truck purchase? I would sure take a hard look at the nissan-cummins combo if I was looking for a new truck

The "check trailer lights" function on the key FOB of the Titan is pretty cool. At present, I have to use my spouse for this. She's been largely replaced at the helm by the addition of an autopilot with this Nissan truck, she wouldn't be needed for the pre-towing inspection. Fortunately for both of us though, she can't be completely replaced by any amount of automation.

I had me one of them Datsun pickups back in the early 70's. I think it was a 1967 model. It wouldn't tow much more than a skiff but at least it didn't have an extra tank full of fertilizer.

If you know anyone in the Diesel Technology department of that fancy prep school you work at you might ask, but the guys in the cat shop where I used to work said it would be unwise to buy a diesel anything for a while until they get the emissions figured out without the DEF junk. You know, like VW did.

That sure is a nice looking truck, though. Inside and out. And 12,000 pounds towing. Impressive.

It does not discuss the engine's RPMs that generate the impressive hp and torque figures. I can't seem to find it on a broader search either (eg: http://cumminshub.com/5.0l-cummins.html)

Aside from emissions, the 5.0 V8 Cummins is PROBABLY one of their newer, high RPM motors. The jury is still somewhat out on this technology having the longevity and reliability of the low RPM workhorses we all generally think of when we ponder a diesel motor. There is really no way of knowing if these are 20 year motors like their predecessors.

Agree with Kushtaka I would be concerned with the potential high RPM that this engine will probably require. My 8.3 L C series runs down the highway at 65 mph and 1600 RPM pushing up to 40,000 lbs.

But this looks like a really nice truck! It will be interesting to see what the price point is.

Down the line, this might turn out to be an excellent marine conversion if it holds up in the truck world. The first and test applications seem to be in the commercial world, in busses etc.
