Niagara Falls via C-Dory??

Robert, I am not too sure that you can take a private vessel up the river close enough to see the falls, the only boats I have ever seen around the base are the "Maid of the Mist" and other commercial tour boats. I could be wrong but it shouldn't be too hard to research on line or a phone call to the local Coast Guard in the area. It's sure worth seeing though even if you have to do it from land.

Isn't the river full of rapids after the falls? I seem to remember seeing a documentary on wild jet boat rides around there. They went through narrow canyon like stretches with huge whitewater.

Approach it from the downriver side.

I had a similar thought, and then felt great sadness that someone was attempting to drop over the falls in a C-Dory. My first thought was "As strong as these boats are, they won't survive the drop".

Must be Monday.

It can be revealing to look at the Niagara River via Google Earth.

(Sorry, can't copy the satellite photo. But look down the river about 1- to 1-1/2 miles!)

Pretty rough white water canyon/chute!

If you decide to go, make out your Last Will and Testament first,
leaving out the "being of sound mind" part....

Enjoy the falls!

Joe. :teeth :thup

I'm sure the local Guy that told us did not imply doing something illegal. He stated that you stayed outside of the buoys - right next to Grand Island. About a mile away.

We'll see when we get there. Might stay at Beaver Island when we get there

By the way - we spent the day in your nice city today (Rochester ) - dinner at Dinosaur Barbeque.

As a "local," I can tell you THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA! You can't get close enough to see the Falls. Besides, it's illegal.

That is really nice. So not only will I get a ticket if I float down the falls, but when I am rescued (I am a church going man and have god on my side), I will get another one for being too close to the falls.....Sounds about right to me given this day and age..... But other than that, I have been on the boat that goes up there with my wife and I wouldn't not feel comfortable doing so in a CD 22 - a Thunderjet would be good fun though.
