New Yamaha F70 replaces F90?

(I'm hoping Matt will see this because I believe he is a Yamaha dealer.)

In the current Boat/US Trailerboat magazine there is a small article about the new Yamaha F70 that weighs just 260 #. What I find most interesting is a comment that Yamaha intends for this 70 hp motor to replace their 90. Is that correct? How does it match up against Suzuki?

Warren I saw the same article The f70 will probably replace the f75 for sure . which is part of the 1.6litre family of engines which is the f75and f90 It will be interesting to see if Yamaha getsa 130-135 hp engine next?

Warren good seeing you in Seattle take care Jim

The F70 is designed to replace the old two stroke 70 and 90. I'm not sure how a four stroke 70 can replace a two stroke 90, but the weight is good, and performance is supposed to be excellent. I could see the F75 being eliminated in favor of this motor. Time will tell if they build any other motors (60 or 90) on this block.

What was disappointing in all the new Yamaha motors introduced is the lack of a 130 or 175 in their line up. What they really need is a new block to build a 175 and 150 on. While their current F150 is a good running motor, it doesn't have the performance of the Suzuki 150 (in fact in many applications the Suzuki 140 can match the Yamaha 150 in performance).

I have no idea why a 130/135 isn't built on their 115 platform, or even as a detuned 150. The jump from 115 to 150 is a big one, and the jump from 150 to 200 is huge in cost and weight.

Yamaha builds good motors, but I think the Suzuki line is technologically superior.

That's my 2 cents and worth what you paid for it.
