I just heard of someone who did a big turkey in one of these things and it was faster and came out wonderful. This might be a nice present for the guy/girl who has everything. I have 2 smokers. One is a Cookin Cajun and the other is a SS Brinkman. The heat source is either electrical heating element or charcoal. Both have water pans and heat level is between 240 - 250 F for slow and even cooking. I use applewood chunks most of time but like mesquite for beef brisket and alder with fish. My first experience was smoking a 25lb turkey using charcoal and apple wood. When I removed it, all of meat fall off the bone and looked terrible to 5 guests but somewhere we ate all of it and had no leftovers.

I have a propane smoker w/ water pan. Works great. I've smoked, turkey, chicken, ribs, beef/pork roasts, salmon, halibut...used apple, mesquite, cherry & other woods...low and slow. 8)

DD, a buddy of mine down the road purchased one of these just before Thanksgiving and cooked a turkey in it on T-day. He said it came out great.

I bought one of these things and it works really good. I have cooked several chickens and one turkey and they all came out really moist and delicious. I am impressed.

I have one of the common black box smokers and have done many chickens (and several turkeys) and all have turned out good to excellent. I don't know that I need "faster", but I love an excuse to buy something new to play with so I tracked down this review of that unit:

The "Grillin Fool" had quite a bit of trouble initially adapting his experience and expectations to the way this unit cooks. 375 is the lowest with the lid closed, the smoker box is way too small, and you can only get to it from the top down. He eventually figured out how to make it work, but...not being a "professional" <grin>, I'd prefer something a bit more forgiving.

I just cut and pasted some of the review you had a linked below. It does not seem so bad. I in no way suggested these were for everyone. It was just post about a new cooker that some folks seemed to like and have good luck with. You seemed to want to paint a dreary image of the product, I'm not sure why, I take it there is no microwave in your house. I have no interest in the company nor do I own one but thanks for sharing your thoughts see below.

I’ve never owned a gas grill or an infrared grill (this being both) and there is some adjustments that needed to be made on my part.

Once I got a handle on what it can and can’t do as well as make it through the learning curve of what it means to use an infrared grill I have been able to make some seriously great food on it.
