New Tom Cat 255

Rick just called me from the SBS and said he really likes the look of the new Tom Cat 255. Has anyone here taken it for a test drive? Any opinions other than the cost? Hopefully he will come to his senses when he gets home.

Pat, don't count on any of us to help with his "senses". Sounds to me (and probably I speak for a majority of us at the SBS) that he's in full control of his faculties... If I was in control of our bank account, I'd have one but I'm not, not that I'd do anything so rash...

Saw one today at the show, it's very nice, you'll love it... :cry

Charlie

You go Rick!! You rock... :thup :thup

I'm with you Charlie, I would LOVE to get see the TC255 in the driveway with my name on the title. Unfortunately I don't see that in my future.

Pat, my only experience in the TC255 was my foray to the SBS last weekend. All I can say is it is the roomiest 25 footer around! I would love to have it! The one and ONLY drawback to it other than price IMHO is they put the motors on the transom bracket. That makes downrigger fishing a lot tougher as the lines will end up in the prop with the motors so far back and so wide. But for the size of the berth up front I would gladly try to figure out how to keep my lines out of the props!

Thinking about it I would love to see this thing powered by twin Mercury 175HP Sportjets! Sure there would be a small motor box in each corner of the cockpit but I think it would be an awsome setup.

Gary, all you need is tall downriggers and the problem is solved. Or long ones to get them out to the side. Work with me here, we can do this.... :)

Pat give it up, or give him up... :crook No I don't really mean that....It's got to be a joint decision, and by that I dont mean while youre smokeing one...... :cry A boat that expensive is a big jump.

Now that that's been said, go jump and buy one.

Go Rick.... :love

Crap...........I just realized that TC is going to cost more than the little country house on 7 acres that I bought last year for the grandkids to visit.

Let's see which is the better investment........................

If I was your grandkid, I'd MUCH rather visit a floating house like a TC than one of those fixed to the ground type things... However, I recognize that financial appreciation and personal appreciation are not the same thing. Which one(s) are you investing in?

Roger, a few years ago when the $ market tanked, I remember one of our members stating that his C-Dory held its' value better than his $ market investments  ......(of course that is different than the "little house on the prairie" that you are discussing).

Gary,

You had the same thought that I did about the Sportjets for a power option except I had mine a year ago. Problem was that E.Q. Les reminded me that they are still true two strokes that are both loud and thirsty. It won't be long though and that may change. What a nice package with good horse power, small seat boxes with cushions like the standard 25, and a transom door that goes out onto a swimstep that is low to the water. Not to mention that the draft would be great for those shallow water folks. The price could also be a bit different if you didn't have to make and attach the Armstrong brackets. It would also reduce costs of moorage and ferry boat rides.

Still only a dream for my next C-Dory to have two hulls but hey, it's My dream and my Tom Cat still has the Sportjets.

Hi Dave..............How are you? Did you happen to run into Rick at the SBS? Are you in on this? Come on.........fess up.
Pat

? #1. Hi Pat, I'm doin' good!

? #2. No, I didn't "run into Rick".

? #3. I'm always willing to help spend someone elses money on a C-Dory. :smilep

P. S. Great to "hear" from you! ....and enjoy your new boat..

Thanks, Dave. Well it's not a done deal yet. He's currently on a trip down the coast and has a little more time to "come to his senses" before he gets home. Meantime, maybe I should go buy a bunch of lottery tickets.

HA HA HA HA - you mentioned a boat and investiment in the same post - HA HA HA HA.

Pat,

Let's just say that I am very patial to Jet propulsion. After running a jet sled for the last 5 years I have "seen the light" so to speak. Outboards with pumps don't count. The Inboard Mercury Sportjet package takes a powerhead from the 2 stroke Optimax and attaches it to a jetpump. These make very small powerful packages that would fit in a corner of the TC very nicely.

What do I like about jets so much? Well for one thing the pumps require very little maintenance. They allow for very shallow draft. Won't ever have a problem with breaking a prop due to a deadhead. and finally the manueverability of a jet at the dock is simply astounding. With my 19' sled I can litterally pivot the boat on its center. No need for bow thrusters! Simply be patient and the jet will rotate you around. With twins you are suppose to be able to crab the boat sideways.

Tim, I've thought for years that it is too bad they didn't put the 4 stroke powerhead on the Sportjets. It would be a great package then! I think the reasoning is that the powerband is too different to get an efficient package.

Bob Cat made it back home to sunny So Cal, having traded a day of rain here on Saturday for 2 days of rain in Seattle. The route down the coast allowed a view of all the northern Channel Islands, then all the others except San Clemente. Lots of traffic but nice to be home!

I had a great time crawling around Dive Cat, sitting at the helm like a kid on the ride at Walmart, and admiring Les's work. It is remarkable to have so much stuff on that boat, yet it still looks like it could be a stock-from-the factory model. Les hid everything away so well. You have to look to find. The Spectra Watermaker guy did just that, making several visits, camera in hand. I gave him permission to use the installation for marketing purposes.

Also enjoyed so many other folks enjoying the boat. Some of you know I searched for 4 years before I found what I wanted and needed for my purposes. This boat may not be for everyone, but I know other boat owners can appreciate finding and having what they really want.

Many thanks to Roger, Linda and others who helped pull this together for the C-Brats. I really appreciate the opportunity to have met so many Brats and Dogs at one place. And what a great venue! And huge thanks to the folks at C-Dory (The Mother Ship) for all the support they give the groups and for their committment to product excellence.

Dive Cat will be ready for pickup about Feb. 15. Katy and I will be driving Junior up, along with Mika the dog. We'll be spending a several days with Les and Company, going through all the systems. Several of you locals expressed an interest in seeing and riding on the final result. I'll keep you posted here and we'll have us a mini-mini cat gathering.

Looking forward to this next event!

Bob Cat

PS: Byrdman, the adoption papers are in process. Meanwhile, we'll time-share whenever you can make it out here! And sorry about underestimating the magnitude of your BBQ expertise!
