New Member,First Project

Hello everyone...New member as of Oct. '09. Just wanted to post some pictures of our new cockpit floor boards. Just click on "Scout" photo album
to view first restoration project. Our "new" '87 angler will hopefully be up and fishing soon. The floor boards are Garapa, a South American hardwood. I used a compass to scribe the curvature of the hull onto the sleepers, resulting in a level, flat surface. Overall length, 74".See you all soon, Sam

Sam,
Very nice work. Did you treat the wood in any way and if so, what with?

From what I have read from other owners, you picked a good first project.

Nice work! How did you use the compass? I am having trouble visualizing that. I've seen a tool that looks like a roller with a pencil through the middle that can be used for the same purpose.

BTW looks like you uploaded each photo twice!

Great work. We did virtually the same thing with Kingfisher but in mahogany (Much cheaper than teak)
Also did the cabin interior. Photo's in album.

A few coats of poly and it looks pretty neat.

The sleepers were made of ash, because I had some left over from another project. I milled them 1"x 2.5" x 67". I then laid one width wise
on the deck,up against the pilot house, set my compass at approx. 2.5 " (distance from pointed end of compass and pencil end of compass). Starting at midpoint of sleeper, I placed the pointed end of the compass on the deck and touched the sleeper with the pencil end.,As you move from center to left, and center to the right you scribe the hull contour onto the sleeper. cut the sleeper on a bandsaw, and repeat with the other sleepers. I used some teak oil I had for the finish...Finally sorry about the double upload on the photos..will work on my computer skills..

Nice. Looks like a wood deck. 8)

I've seen that wood once before. My buddy had a bunch of it. Kinda purplish in color and very hard from what I remember.
