new iPhone

Anyone have an iPhone? I am curious if we can expect a new model this year and what new features or software updates will occur? Will camera be upgraded to 4 -5 megapixel unit? I dont have one but my buddy owns the Huge Store clothing company showed it to me and now I have Iphone fever.

From what I understand the phone is cool but the only service (AT&T) sucks. Best to wait until you can use it with Verizon, et al.

I have one, great, but not perfect. The camera is OK, but for web stuff it is very slow. And the keyboard sucks, but I'm happy overall. The new one is supposed to fix the slowness for the web, don't know about the camera. Not sure if I'll upgrade, will wait to see.

I got mine about a week after they came out. I think it's great but it is slow accessing the web on ATT's Edge network - it works fine when you're in a free wifi area.
Skinny has Apple introducing an iPhone which will work on ATT's 3g network within the next few months.
If I were you I'd check to see whether you presently have ATT 3G coverage. If you do, I'd wait for the newer iPhone's release.

I got mine just after Apple dropped the price and I am VERY happy with it. It is probably the only gadget I've ever owned with which I am more pleased six months later then when I first bought it. My wife's cell phone is on Verizon, and I get consistently better phone coverage then she does, and the iPhone even worked in Europe as is (no additional service charge, but reasonable roaming rate for telephone. International data service is, however, very expensive) I have all my contacts, calendar for years back and forward, a thousand pictures, and three movies (stuff I was involved in and sometimes want to show people) on it, and have still only used a third of it's memory. The mapping function (including the pseudo-gps location finding by triangulation from cell phone towers), weather, and stocks work fine even on AT&T, and the 2 megapixel camera is an adequate back-up camera in good light (MUCH better than that on my wife's phone). My only complaint is the sluggish internet speed (as mentioned by others), but since I don't use it for email or long internet sessions but rather for quickly getting directions or info on something particular, this is a minor complaint for me.

If you know that Apple is switching to the faster AT&T net work within a few months, I'd wait. If it is going to be a year or more, I'd buy now.

I would have bought one if it wasn't for the ATT only thing. At Neah Bay, the only carrier is Verizon and I get signal up to about 25 miles offshore. In addition, verizon coverage is a little better than ATT here. However, for me the lack of coverage in my favorite fishing spot was the killer.

I have an I touch-since I use Verizon. The I touch does not do phone, but does the wifi, and now with the upgrade does the triangulation wifi for position and maps. Also E mail. I have a relitative who loves his I phone, but he loves all things Apple!

If it was available thru Verizon I would buy an I phone.

One other thought, if you have T Mobile service, you can buy an "unlocked" iPhone on ebay and use it on the T Mobile network.

Do you have 8GB or 16?

Warren

I have the 8 GB version. Available memory is actually 7.3 GB and I still have 5.7 GB available. 1014 photos, 3 videos (total of 90 minutes), full calendar, all contacts. No music or emails.

Do you happen to know, if you are a Mac user, can you sync your iCal and Address Book with the iPhone?

Warren

I am a Mac user, and I sync my iPhone with Entourage without problems. I believe that the sync is actually done via iCal and Address Book, but I don't use those applications directly.
