We use active captain for finding marinas, fuel, showers,anchorages and hazards when planning trips or when on the water. They are expanding their capabilities. I have no stake in this company but I do use it and the reviews about anchorages and marinas is helpful to say the least and the input about is by people like you and I. Kind of like Trip Avisor but for the boating public. Here is the news below.
When ActiveCaptain was envisioned 5-6 years ago, we designed 4 major capabilities. So far we've released one - the ability to crowd- source point-of-interest information for cruisers. There are still some tweaks and minor changes but we're quite happy with the results. We consider that we're now at the end of the beginning of the capabilities of ActiveCaptain.
On April 1st, we'll be releasing the first part of the second capability - the ability to upload, archive, modify, and share routes. Routes are lists of waypoints that show a planned path of travel from one location to another. Most users of electronic charting are quite familiar with route creation. But every time a captain needs to create a route, they start from scratch. We think there's a better way.
Through March we'll be discussing a little more about the new capabilities that are coming. Routes will roll out slowly and carefully. They'll bring some incredible new uses and more ways to share information with your fellow captains.
I thought this was pretty cool. Nothing beats free. :shock:
