AFTER 25 YEARS OF WAITING (TO AFFORD) A C-DORY...I FINALLY BIT THE BULLET. MINE IS MAROON WITH TWIN 40 HONDAS. I PLAN ON INSTALLING A NEW GARMIN GPSMAP 178C SOUNDER AND AN ICOM VHS RADIO. ALSO, WOULD LIKE TO MOUNT A DAVIT W/POT PULLER ON THE STARBORD SIDE...
I HAVEN'T THOUGHT OF A NAME YET.
THANKS TO THOSE WHO OFFERED SOME ADVICE A LONG THE WAY...

MIKE

Welcome aboard Mike. What year is the boat? And where are you located? Mine is Cabernet in color also with twin 40's. . You can post some of that info under Profiles and it will show up along side any of your posts.

Dave,

It's a new 2003 left over from last year. I've updated the profile. I live in Vancouver, WA. Really looking forward to getting underway!

Welcome to the group, Mike. You're kinda sorta in my neighborhood. Looking foreward to meeting you in real life at one of the brat gatherings. (Cathlamet) hint-hint.

Thanks Larry,

Look forward to meeting you as well. You are in my nick of the woods... :D
Funny, I served on a Navel Vessel during the Vietnam War in the Tonkin Gulf as an enlisted man. Heck, I've got more room in the Berth of my 22 Cruiser than I had on board ship...life is good.

Hey Mike welcome to the pub, the Columbia contigent grows. I live just a wee north of ya. Enjoy your boat, see ya on the water....wanna caravan down to Cathlamet?

Mike,

Welcome to the Pub! We have a home here in Portland where we work but keep the Denebola :star at our real home in Wheeler on the coast where we live life :wink.

I'm finally putting in a crabbing davit this weekend, will have pictures and how-to text soon after that.

Tell us more about how you plan to use your boating time. Jon

Thanks for the welcome folks...much appreciated.

A trip to Cathlamet sounds good. I have not put it in the water yet, so I need to get it broken in properly first.

I plan on retiring in a 5-7 years and will spend my summers in Prince William Sound and the winters down in the lower 48. I have a wife and two daughters to share the boat with and I'm really looking forward to getting away from it all. I'll be using the boat on inland and coastal waters.

The C-Dory is just my speed and style...slow and easy.

Jon,

What kind of davit set up did you go with? Very interested in the installation PICS. I plan on heading down to the Oegon coast a lot. I have a good friend who just retired and is living in Salishan south of Lincoln City, so I will probably head that way from tme to time to take him out. I love crab, so a Crabbing davit is a must...let me know how it goes.

Mike,

I'm going with a manual davit as the waters where we crab down here in the bays are so shallow. There is a thread in the fishing forum on the crabbing davit I purchased. (I'd give you a link here but haven't caught on to that ...yet) Got it from a guy up in WA. he will modify to your needs and has motorized as well. I'll recap this info when I do the how-to. It is a pretty straight forward process but I'd like to see more picture related how-to's myself, so I'll see if I can start a trend. Besides, I'm a visual learner and when these fellow Pubsters start talking all tech this & tech. that it can sometimes feel a little overwhelming  for us new kids. I need more of a; See Spot Run, See Spot Jump, See Spot install an inline Windlass with complete wiring and mounting instructions.

Be sure when you are thinking about doing something to your boat that you check older forums in the Pub. If it's not there, just ask.

Jon

Congratulations!

I am but a stones through from you and will be getting out more and more. I am still breaking in my new motor and will be found fishing springers almost every week starting this Friday.

Drop me a line and we can buddy up if you want to.

I make lots of coastal trips too ;)
