new-be here. just purchased a 2008 16' from the outer end of long island, ny. have been spending the 4th weekend securing the boat, a new trailer, marina transfer to the trailer and the like. i have no boating license, never pulled a trailer, only outboard power ever used were my arms with oars. please wish me luck. before purchasing the boat i spent time reading info on this site. wonderful talk among owners. will let you know how i make out, and with 6 years in the navy, (never on a ship) starboard is right, right. -don

Hello, welcome to the forum, er, family!

Welcome Don!

Well, you'll no doubt have a ball with your CD16.

At first the learning curve may seem a little steep but you'll manage. I would STRONGLY urge you to contact either the US Coast Guard Auxiliary or the US Power Squadron and sign-up for one of their basic boating courses. You'll meet other boaters interested in learning the techniques for SAFE boating, network with other boaters, and learn a BOATLOAD of useful information. ...just DO it.

I'm not familiar with your area, but if you browse online for either/both organizations you'll find them. Another idea would be to ask at a local boat dealership - they'll know.

First Tip: When backing your boat on the trailer - put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel, and look in the rear view mirror. If you want the back of the trailer to go left move your hand to the left. Magically, it works if you want the back of the trailer to go right - move your hand to the right. ...see, this boating stuff isn't so complicated!

Have fun; be Careful! ...take a Basic Seamanship Course!!!!!!!!!!!

Best,
Casey
