Any have advice/experience replacing the control cables? I put the motor in full up tilt forgetting the un-inflated raft was stored in the splashwell and put a perminent kink in the cables. I tried to straighten them and they do function but with way too much resistance.
Is this a project best left to the repair shop? Any advice as to Honda original or after market cables, end fitting problems or smoother perfromance one over the other? I see after market prices go from $50 to $100 for the same length cable.

I've not had to replace these, but it shouldn't be that big of a deal. I suggest you pull what's on the boat, and take them into West Marine, or whereever else you want to go, and get precise replacements. They're probably Teleflex, which is what is available at WM. So, you should be able to get replacements that match the originals. If someone knows the part numbers, that would save you a little time.

If you don't have a Honda service manual, let me know by email or P.M., and I'll copy the relevant parts from mine on removal, reinstall and adjustment, and send them your way.

It's been my experience that the part numbers are on the cable, generally the last three digits reflect the length in inches. I would suggest getting the most upgraded cables you can purchase because they will work better, have less friction and less play.

Dave,
Thanks for the offer of the shop manual, I have one and I find it's format lacking details. I was mainly concerned about the fittings on the ends of the cables. Looks like this will be a project for the end of the season with Widget in the backyard.
