need pool help

Susan and I are headed to Maui next week to scuba dive. We would like test our gear before leaving. sound easy right? wrong. I can not find one public or ymca pool that will lets us. They rent the pools to scuba shops and we could get in on a class for $75 each. a $150 to test my gear for ten minutes is just nuts and I will not do it. does any one here know where i could get pool time???

I would get in the sound but we do not have the right wet suits for that, not even for a few minutes.

How about a night in a hotel that has a pool? Register, move in, and then go for your swim. :mrgreen:

I like the motel reply.
Other options are public and private pools, apartments and condo complexes, real estate sub-divisions, private homeowners, city pools, recreational water parks

I knew testing swimming pool water would come in handy one day :lol:
 
tom if you come down to Naples Fl. Ill heat the pool up for you it's about 78-80 degrees to cold for us fl folks . We like it to be about 85 degrees but its all your s Its just about 3000miles Good Luck see you in jan. Jim and Loree
 
Tom,

If you can't locate a pool another option would be to visually inspect regs, bc etc. and then pop them on a tank and drop them in a tub to check for leaks and free flows.

Have a great time in Maui. We haven't dove there yet but we are anxiously waiting for our third trip to Bonaire.

Tom, you just proved to me that you are truly a considerate man. Previously, I would have thought that you would have just taken Susan to the Puget Sound, loaded her up with all the gear and had her jump in to test both sets of gear. :shock:

Hi Tom,
I echo what others have said; short of a refresher course you need to rig up and test year gear in the bath tub. Pools would not likely allow scuba divers unless they are part of a class under the supervision of an insured instructor due to liability concerns.

It's important to be able to completely submerge all hoses and connections after your system is pressurized as I'm sure you know to inspect for leaks. In a pinch, use a bottle of water and dish soap and spray over a small area to look for bubbles. Make sure to purge your regs several times to ensure they don't free flow, inflate/deflate your BCD with a close eye on any evidence of leaking air, and look along all your hoses.

Have fun and enjoy Maui! I will be diving dry in 50 something degree water this weekend.
 
Thanks guys I will do the tub test. I have called every public pool I can think of. they will let you 200 kids run and jump around, dive and swim but they wont let me go under water with my own air. I mean who is in more danger of drowning? the kids or me with my own air supply???
 
Hot tub or Spa? We have a four person in Bothell, bigger one on Anderson Island. You wouldn't be cold!
