Need help making a poor mans boat cover.

I tried several cheap, large tarps from Harbour Freight. Covered the boat, but didn't last.

So here's my solution. Bought remnants of Sunbrella of e-bay, 30 ft long, ~1 yard wide. Took them to a local upholster and had them sew the strips together AND add tie down straps. I like those a lot better than grommets which tent too tear out in Santa Anas. Covers the boat, with radar arch included at a cost of ~$250.

You have to fold it up and tuck it in over the radar arch, but it covers the boat from anchor to motor well. Built a plastic pipe support for the cockpit so water didn't collect.

I just bought a sunbrella cover from Angola for a 22 cruiser. Total was $1,000 delivered, including an added zipper for entry, a few extra inches down the sides, and two 40 hp engine covers. Well made, fits absolutely perfect, and came in a week, to Washington. I highly recommend them.
