Need advice for Weeki Wachee, FL area

We're heading down to the Weeki Wachee the second week of July. We have a small cabin reserved for the week, and we're taking our kayaks. Had intended to take our newly acquired 12' jon boat...till I tried it out today...no way I'm getting in it with 2 boxers and a clumsy wife, and a clumsy me...LOL!
So we're taking the C Dory. We can dock at the cabin, explore at least some of the Weeki Wachee, and the Mud River, but interested in other day trips from this location...maybe an overnighter. Not sure at this point if the gulf will be oil-free enough to explore the coast.
Any advice for day trips (freshwater/saltwater) in the area...even if it requires a short trailering (in case of oil)?

From W/W you have lots of boating to do There's the Crystal river , Tarpon springs , Ceder key, Caldesi Island, Tampa bay , so many places so little time .
It just depends what you want to do Cruise, camp, fish , watersports, etc

Just be real careful up there stay in the channels until you get to know the area NW florida eats propellers shallow water and lots of oyster beds ,shoals etc. We will be up in Tenn for July and Aug any Brats going to be up in Lake Tellico area send a PM Jim and Loree

Rick Rhodes book on the "Big Bend" of Florida is a good resource for the rivers and estuaries up this way. Also go to "Active Captain" and that with Google Earth will give you a bunch of good ideas.
