Navigation Equipment

Hi Folks.......Snoopy-C currently has a Garmin 180 gps unit with micro-g chips. I was preparing to get set up for some of the Puget Sound treks planned by the C-Brats, and I was unfortunate enough to find out that as of 12/04 Garmin "no longer supports G or micro-G chips" :sad :thdown  . Therefore, unless I can find a used chip, my gps can't be detailed with the chip. What is a cost effective way to go? Obsolete great working electronics are the pits. Also, it appears some of the newer electronic maps have more extensive coverage than the garmin g/micro-g stuff. Suggestions please! Thank you, Ron

Have you set a limit for the amount of $$ you are wishing to spend? Are you sure you simply want a new chip as opposed to upgrading the equipment?

I was in a similar position last month. Decided it was best just to go new in exchange for the piece of mind that my system will hopefully remain effective ten years from now.

I chose the Raymarine C70 GPS/Nav display. Are you sure you just want the chip as opposed to an upgrade that will provide for a better voyage?

I would kind of would like to get by for a while using the 180. The other systems look great, but would need to do more research before making another big investment for electronics.

Any more suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Garmin has a rebate program...your old unit could be worth a $150 trade in on a new Garmin...might ease the pain a bit.
