my summer boating adventure

I had to go to graduation June 19th, reported for duty in Elfin Cove on the 20th. I got off the plane, got to shake Dr Bob's hand and chat for about one minute before having to procede with getting moved into my room and boat. It would have been nice to visit with Dr Bob longer but I had to get moved in my boat and prepare to take folks out the next day.

I was wondering all winter what boat I would end up running this summer, ended up with the same 32' Little Hoquim I had last summer. Thats a good draw as it's an excellent fishing platform, the down side is that it rides and handles just like a big C-Dory, a little rough, caution needed on a following seas.

Like the the last three summers, the starboard 250hp suzuki outboard took a dump towards the end of the season. That engine has yet to make it through a season. With just a few weeks left to go it failed again. Rumor has it that boat will be sporting a pair of 300hp Mercs next season :)

The last few weeks I ran the bosses baby. Over the winter he located the first charter boat he bought. Back in the old days he ran a 1977 Uniflight out of Westport, he found the boat in CA in derilict condition and bought it. He had the boat totally reconditioned, removed the inboard added an offshore bracket and hung a pair of 225hp merc outboards on it...it's a sharp looking hot rod of a boat that rides like a damn cadillac.

Had some interesting boating weather in August, plenty of thick fog, one day we ventured out to fish and enjoyed a nice breeze, nothing like 45knt gale force winds to make an interesting day. I hid behind the Inian Islands and had a pretty good salmon day, it was tough goings.

thanks
Hey MHog, if you're ever putting around town, stop in and grab some fish....I brought back a little fish :)
Harvey, we where hoping to make it to Squim and share a few stories but illness got in the way...fer sure hope to make it to the SBS...things are tough back here in the real world, I usually have between 12 to20 new students each fall, this fall I have two sections with 30 students each..what a zoo. but a good zoo.

Probably the coolest thing this season was the fact I was able to cajole the boss into hiring Jr. He wasn't going to hire any deckhands but weakened and hired the kid. The kid did a most excellent job, guests, coworkers and even the boss and his spouse loved him. The bosses wife even wanted to adopt him, we're working on the papers :) just wait untill she sees his college bill. The boss was real disappointed to hear that he won't be able to come back next summer, he was going to work on getting him his captains license and turn him loose with a boat..cool

met a lot of neat folks, the AZ dairy farmers, the doctors, the yachties, a lot of fun folks from last year and even the KnottyC crew. What a kick it was to have Don& Dee show up

Sorry we didn't get much time with you at Elfin Cove. It is one of our favorite places. Some really neat lodges there! Lots of fun at "camp change day". Interesting how each lodge greated their guests slightly differently.

When we were there it looked like it might be a slow season. Hope that things picked up.

I'm certainly not surprised that he did such an excellent job.....after all he had you to teach and mentor him all those years. I remember you telling us just a few years back how you were training him to be a master deckhand by utilizing him to weigh anchor instead of those new fangled expensive electric winches. :wink

You done good!
