My child on the John Deere

OSHA inspector has to love those safety shoes!

Front end loader beats the heck out of a wheel barrow any day. Tools are lots of fun.

Mike neat video. Your daughter looks as if she can handle that JD really well. I once rented a front end loader back hoe to move about 100 yards of dirt and really made a mess, it's a lot harder than it looks!

Nice Mike. What size tractor is that? I've got a 24HP Kubota with every attachment under the sun except a post hole digger and that tiller. I especially love the backhoe! Haven't taught my grandkids to use it yet.

It's really paid it's way around here, have had it for about 4 years and onlyt have 140 hours or so on it! This is Tom (Otter) riding it during the 2004 CBGT at my place. Haven't heard from him lately, he works for the State Dept, hope he's OK.

Last time I talked to him, Tom said he was leaving the State Department and going to work for a private company, I forget which one, an aerospace company or defense contractor? Anyway, as you all know, Tom has a STANDING INVITATION to cruise Daydream for a week or two any time he and Kathy want to!

Hi Charlie-

That is a JD 3203. It is 32 hp with Hydrostatic and 4wd. The loader, rototiller, and a 5" wood chipper are the only attachments I have. I used to have a JD 24hp with a backhoe and I really miss it. The backhoe was way fun but I just don't have a need for one beyond fun anymore.

Thanks to all of you for looking in. I just discovered last night that even though Windows will not play the video format created by my BlackBerry phone, I can plug it into the USB and upload direct to YouTube from the phone mem card. I have a file converter to turn the .3gp video files into other formats, but no need to bother as long as The Google keeps The YouTubes free. Expect more videos when I remember to take them. Lets hope there is one of a younger kid catching a sturgeon soon.

Ran up to Rainier Fri/Sat via the Cathlamet Channel and then main channel. Did not talk to anybody below Cathlamet. Low success above Cathlamet: maybe one fish / five boats. Too early yet, I think.

You realize, of course, Mike, that you are creating some lucky young man's idea of the perfect woman. Fishing...boating...heavy equipment...can she shoot, too?

Where the heck were girls like that when I was a young lad?

You done good.

One of our techs bought my Dad's 1980 vintage John Deere tractor, and for a grade school career day brought the tractor, and one of our boats to the school.

A local dealer brought a new Cub Cadet tractor as well.

Everyone wanted their picture taken on the John Deere, even though it is older, kinda rusty and the seat padding is completely gone.

When our tech picked it up from my dad. I helped load it up. It had been over 20 years since I had run that tractor, but it all came back to me.

A take-off on the well known Personal Ad:
"Seeking wife. Must have tractor. Send photo of tractor."

Cool, Dude - nuttin' more fun than tractor time. The tough part, is convincing my better half that it's really work.

Your video brings to mind a bit of a diversion...video cameras. I've been up in WA for a week, trying to finish the place up. With the lovely wife back home holding down the fort, I decided to pick up an el-cheapo video camera that was rated pretty well - a Koda ZI6, $130 from Amazon. I've been shooting up some videos and sending them to her, so she can see the progress.

This thing is sweet! Shoots in HD, and the full size video quality is pretty amazing, given the price. The only real problem I've encountered, is camera shake - no image stabilization at this price point. I found a neat tip to alleviate it, and it costs under a buck - this trick works really well.

Can't link to any full size videos given the bandwidth, but here's a YouTube example that shows the quality you can expect when sharing vidoes - it's still pretty decent looking. Don't gripe about the lame content...I'm well aware it's just an unfinished fence and septic drain field. Two of us find it interesting.
