Moves you don't want to make in your C-Dory

So as not to hijack this thread, I'm going to post "Using SPOT in Conjunction with a Float Plan, -- Ideas" and look for some good stuff there.

As to moves you might not want to do. May seem intuitive, but I've seen it done, backing into wind/waves, and getting a pretty good waterload over the transom. I think that is why the pointy end goes on the front. :wink

Not exactly boat related, but Spot related. On my recent motorcycle trip through the French Alps there were many hours where we were far out of cell range in dangerous territory (mountain roads with 200' drop-offs and no guard rails). Earlier in the trip, one of my buddies had a bad wreck and had to be airlifted to Nice. 7 weeks later he was cleared to fly back to the US. We had cell coverage at the accident scene and were only 20 min away from the nearest town when it happened. (We got help through both means - I drove to the next town and my buddy got on his cell phone).

In the higher mountain areas without cell coverage, and 2 hours to the nearest town, Spot or of course some Sat phone would have been the correct safety equipment. The next time I take such a journey I will seriously consider a Spot.
