Now here's a wierd one. When I key the microphone on my VHF, it switches off the sonar on my Garmin GPS/Sounder. I can still receive on the radio, but I can't transmit.

When I loosened the ratchet that holds the antenna upright and laid the antenna down for transport, suddenly, the microphone stopped turning off the sonar and I was able to transmit and receive.

Help! any ideas on this? :crook

Are both wired to the same electrical branch? Did you check the grounds on each unit? Are the units close to together? I would check the electrical connections and move the units away from each other then try it again

If moving the antenna makes the problem go away, it sounds like an RF interference problem..

Thanks for the input.

Everyone I've checked with seems to agree with the two possible main culprits: ground and RF. After fiddling with the wires and the antenna, I can't make the problem go away without taking the whole system apart and testing it part-by-part.

The heck with it for now. Goin' fishing in Valdez with the antenna laying down (good reception for everywhere I'll be) and I'll mess with it when the silvers are done for the season.
