Merits / pitfalls of folding radar arch

Hi All:

We just registered our boat this weekend and are now "official" c-brats. Can't wait to get on the water. :)

We're going to have a radar arch made so that we can slide a dinghy underneath. We like the concept of a folding arch that would give us storage flexibility.

Just wondering, though, about how well the hinges would hold up over the long run. Does anyone have any experience, observations to share?

I've never seen one but have seen folding radar mounts. If well made I don't see why it wouldn't work. I'd pay a lot of attention to wire routing and a cushion for it and the radar unit if you plan to trailer with it down.
 
Good point about protecting the wires. Seems to me the dome could easily get damaged if lowered during transit. I was thinking it'd be handy simply for storage.
