Marina Del Rey Anglers

Hi SoCal C-Brats & former C-Dogs,
I post this as the owner of C-Pup16 in Los Angeles. C-Pup16 has now become the President's Flagship for the Marina Del Rey Anglers Club in Los Angeles. See http://www.mdranglers.com/ I am that fishing club's president for 2007 and would welcome you C-Dory fishermen to join the Club, or at least join our annual Marina Del Rey Halibut Derby on April 21st -22nd. See www.HalibutDerby.com Besides having fun and teaching fishing skills and fish CPR, this club does good works for White Sea Bass propagation and a Youth Fishing Program. Check it out!
The Club's next meeting will have as guest speaker Jeff Spira, author of books on SoCal Fishing Hot Spots , on Diving Wrecks, and on navigation. What else caught my eye about Jeff Spira is that he sells plans for making wood dory boats, and fishes from a home-made 22 ft dory! Check out Jeff's web site at http://mysite.verizon.net/jeffspira/ then come hear him speak at Marina Del Rey on Wednesday night, February 21st at 7:00. (See club web site for directions.) I would welcome you warmly, and also invite you to join our buddy boat phone tree for fishing Catalina or Santa Barbara Island. The Club's bigger ocean fishing yachts form their own "wolf pack" to plow through almost any seas even to Mexican waters to target marlin. I will lead my own "C-Pup-Packs" for trailer boat fishermen targeting WSB and Calico with Saturday overnights at the Isthmus, Cat Harbor or Pt. Dume. Call me at my office in work hours at 213-612-4121 if you have questions!

The weather window is looking good for a three day President's weekend at the Isthmus. SoCal C-Dories going there can hail C-Pup on 16 or 68. I'll be out after dinner after midnight hoop netting and then looking for squid near the Isthmus and fishing for WSB at dawn. Not planning to go too far from Two Harbors. Find me in a beach chair near the gas dock sleeping in the sun in the afternoons.

Keith, C-Pup

Keith I love it... Yer really getting into this fish thing.... I don't like to eat fish much so I am not a fisherman, but I sure enjoy your enthusiasm... I bet you do a great job.

How did you do?
Heck, I haven't been out since October. Rock fishing opens in a couple weeks. I'll be heading over to the Channel Islands soon.

It was a great trip. Beautiful Saturday, great trip over, sunny and warm. Fished a bit on the way over but no luck. Saturday evening produced 8 lobsters, two were keepers (pic in folder) and the others "just missed". Mackeral and a sculpin bagged too.
Was very fun.
I left noon-ish on Sunday to a rougher ride home but nothing to write about while Keith left after dark and had a much wilder ride than I.
Can't wait to go again!

Jeff

Congrats Keith, on the tourney. Did you catch anything?

I went to Cat last Wed-Fr. Not a good time, way too windy. Boat handled it ok but hardly anyone out fishing and drifting felt like powerboating let alone the hassle anchoring in such wind.

Heard gale warnings this past weekend- went out to Canyon County instead.
Some friends braved the warnings and went out to the islands anyway--said it was great out there. They came back in with several larger YT and good sized reds.
Dang- I hate it when I listen to the weather guy and he's wrong.
