Lowrance GPS

Hi kids! I have a lowrance 3500c plotter that came with the C-Dog. It was probably purchased new by the previous owner in 2005. The last time out it decided not to leave a trail until I was 2 miles out. Went out 5 miles to troll for salmon & it Worked fine as usual until I was back to within 1 1/2 miles of the harbor. It all of a sudden couldn't decide if it was going north or south or maintain a constant position & leaving a radically jagged trail. Two of us in the boat with navionics on our I-phones & both worked flawlessly. After 5 min the gps worked again until in the harbor and again lost all its marbles. First the jagged trail, then straightened out but position kept moving forward & backwards as I moved toward the ramp & finally putting me across the ramp, the road & back out in the water on the other side. I cleaned the plug connections & wires & will try again tomorrow but my confidence in it is not what it was. Maybe time for an upgrade replacement. Been looking at the lowrance elite 7m plotter as a possibility. Anyone using one of these? Any thoughts on my gps going bananas? Vern

There has been a history of problems with the GPS antenna with the Lowrance of that vintage. Also it is getting to the age that the internal battery will need to be replaced.

I have not used the Elite 7, but I would be considering it if I only wanted a GPS/sounder currently. I probably would be going with a Garmin, because of the difference in service history.

I concur with Bob. That series had antennae issues and didn't last long. If you like Lowrance some of the new generation is doing well. If you want simple and bulletproof go Garmin. :smiled George

Thank you boys! The problem must have been with the connectors. I gave them a cleaning the other day and today on the water it worked flawlessly. Ill take a look at that Garmin tho. Vern
