I have been spending a lot of time duck hunting the last month but yesterday was a weird one. First I had a really nice shoot at a large pin tail. Classic shot with the bird crossing in front of me right to left. I took the shot and feathers flew, bird folded and dropped off the top of the levee I was tied too. I went to track done my prize only to find that the other side of the levee is a black beery covered drainage ditch and adjoining field. After a long search, which was over shadowed by every duck know to man flying over my head because I left the thunder stick in the boat, I was unable to find my bird. On the way back to the boat I found a Uniden Alantis 250 handheld radio on the top of the dike still running???? Yes I looked around for the body. There is some sort of pipe going into the canal right there with a pad lock on the end. I see these all around both river systems I hunt but have no idea what they are for. Water sampling station maybe?

After I left that area I ran across two young guys ( 20's) in a 14 foot boat desperately pulling on the starter cord while drifting at a good rate on the out going tide AWAY from any take out or ramp. Well I pulled up and found that 1) the motor will not start 2) the oar broke from rot 3) There cells are dead. 4) Their truck is at the ramp that my truck is not at in the other direction from where I am headed. So what do you do??? You put them in your boat and tie your extra anchor line ( because they don't have a line more then 3 ft long) to the bow of their boat and tow them 3 miles out of your way for a hour while every duck know to man uses that time to move from point A to point B , which just happens to be over your path, Just in time to be done as you are done towing.

Well I lost the duck but did find a radio and some good karma for the future.

That's pretty cool of you Tom. And it was huge for those two young guys. They will repay the world some day. Sorry about your duck though.

Speaking of birds, how about them Seahawks?

taste like chicken, hawks not ducks.

Tom, You did good. That's what matters in life. (and just in case the guy who dropped the radio caught your duck.....he might think it was a fair trade)

One should never feel bad for doing good and should not do right just to feel good.
