Loading a Mokai on top of the C-Dory

Can one person load a Mokai on top of the C-Dory? The answer is yes but it doesn't fit very well with the radar arch in the way.

Without a davit system its even harder to get up there by one's self and really doen't fit that well no matter what, but as shown below it made it to Alaska & back last summer.

Any arrival dates for the new one & is the old one sold?

Good odds we'll be seeing you at Lake Powell shortly.

That's a great picture!!

With the Davit it goes up pretty easy. The strap is one I got off the web for lifting Kayaks and canoes. It looks like a tie down strap with compound leverage and the cam only let's it go one direction until you pull a release line. I just need to make a rack like Montana Kev's that would support the boat a little more forward.

Marie said the next one finished would be shipped to me and should leave the factory around Wednesday then three to four days to here. I think it will make it in time. I haven't tried to sell the old one just in case the new one doesn't make it in time. I don't want to be without one for Powell.

Now have about 12 hours on it &  more than ever looking forward to taking it to Southeast Alaska, Yukon & the Northwest Territories.  Will be a tough choice next summer between hauling it north on top of the jeep behind the truck camper to explore rivers & lakes in northern Canada or back to Southeast Alaska with the C-Dory.

These are some of the changes made by Mokia Manufactoring since I purchased my old one in 2007.  They are definitely a company that doesn't rest on their laurels.

Outside drain  plug for water that has entered haul.
Tie for fuel lines to keep them from flopping around when motor is removed.  Lines are now rated for ethanol & fittings much higher quality.
Removal & installation of motor & fuel tank much quicker & easier to do.
Quieter with lower pitch sound at low rpm but is louder at higher rpm's. The much increased power is well worth it.   Think it will go up any river I dare an attempt.
New Subaru motor is industrial grade & should last longer.
Can't tell how this was done, but JoLee & I both fit in the Mokia much more comfortably & feels more stable with us both aboard.
Though the older Mokia started fairly easy the new one rarely takes more than one pull.
Top cover fits better & much easier to take on & off.
Optional anchor system for 80 bucks works great for staying stationary in stream for fishing or whatever.
Change in bow area shape reduces splash back.

Jay,
I could almost see the smile on our face reading your post. That's great to see you are well satisfied with the new product. I wish good you and Jolee good luck with your new boat. I'll stop I don't want to hijack this thread too bad.

I'm thinking about buying a Mokai myself.

$3500 price tag is good on orders made before Sept. 30. ~$300 increase after that!

Was thinking of buying used, but new features sound like a real plus.

Used are available from $2500, often with trailers and other options, but it costs a lot ($500-$1000) to drive across the country where some of them are!

Shipping on new one is $325-$400, depending on state delivered to.

I also think that if someone showed up at one of our gatherings with one and let folks take it out for a spin, we'd soon have a small feet of them within the C-Brats! :D

No chance for a dealership, though: factory direct except in Alaska and Hawaii. :(

We have the same issue with hauling the tandem Kayak and have been looking at options for how to manage kayaks onto the roof. Getting any kayak on the roof of truck or C-Dory is getting harder. This is a design Mokai should consider. With 3 pieces you have a tandem kayak and a single kayak, looks easy to manage. Check out the site: http://www.point65.com/default.asp?page=kayaks&kayak=41

After riding in Jay's new Mokai I couldn't even make it one day without ordering a new one from the factory. Joe I am going to sell mine, less than 25 hours on it for $2500 comes with cockpit cover and paddle. It is a 2008 model year so it is the new body style with the Honda 6 HP. Maybe we could meet in Winnemucca. I was waiting to get the new one before I sell. I don't want to be without one at Powell.

Kevin

That is an interesting concept is this one your thinking about?

Kevin we may have a deal in the works!

I have to check on the California CARB and DMV regulations this morning.

Seems the Mokai folks can't sell the new boat in California with the Subaru engine (Industrial rated engine, not California Air Resource Board Regulation approved.) (Probably could have one delivered in Oregon (no sales tax, another +), or Nevada, and register it there, for less, anyway!)

Will have to see if the older model "flies" in California with the DMV, etc.

Is the "cockpit cover" a spray skirt or boat cover? Does it come with any other goodies, like rod holders, anchor, Wallas Stove, 24 mile radar, scuttle plug, etc.?

I looked though your photo albums. Your are the KING OF THE DINGHY (and Kayak) WORLD. You should be our Dinghy Advisor! Must had 6-8 over the years. Just put 'em end-to-end, and walk across the lake!

Winnemucca sounds good! (Well, for an exchange, anyway, wouldn't want to spend my entire vacation/retirement there!)

More, later!

Joe- It is a boat cover for transit. Is does have two Scotty rod mounts and two ram ball mounts and a GoPro mount. Oh 2 paddle straps and 4 eye straps as tie points. I do have a spray skirt if you want it I'll throw it in. If your interested send me a PM. Everything that you saw on top of the boat I still have with the exception of the Yellow inflatable Kayak.
