Lewmar/Defender Anchor Issue

In a recent post on "How much Chain?", I posted that I received a Delta Anchor that was so sharp it cut my hand and had to be filed down to be safely usable.

I e-mailed Defender about the issue, mostly so they could check their stock to see if this was a common problem. Today, to my surprise, I received a call from Defender saying that they did check inventory and did not find others like it. In addition, they forwarded the e-mail to Lewmar who has told Defender they are sorry and are sending out a brand new anchor replacement.

This all happened within one business day of sending the e-mail.

I have had similar service from InstaTrim trim tab company.
Also PacBrake, the truck engine brake company.

Look for companies that are ISO9001 certified. They will all be 1st class companies to do business with.

The computer company I worked for for 13 years went through ISO 9001 certification. The consensus at the time was that it only certified that the company was good at documenting its procedures, not that the procedures and processes themselves were good.

I think you have to look deeper than simple ISO certification.

My $0.02, YMMMV, all disclaimers apply, etc., etc.

I had a great customer service experience with Raymarine recently. I wanted to order a power/NMEA cable for the S1000 Autopilot. That part didn't show up anywhere on the Raymarine site. I emailed customer service and by the end of the day, I got a response from a service manager telling me they don't stock that part but that he would find one and send it to me. Two days later, I received the part at no cost via 2-day air.

Now that's customer service!!! :thup
