Leveling \ shimming a radar mount?

Hi all,

I got a Seaview radar mount for a Furuno DRS4W, but trying to figure out best way to mount it against the curve of the crown. What have you all done to mount flat surfaces to the roof? Thanks.

Haven't done it to my C-Dory, but in other situations like this, I use washers as spacers for the bolts and then fill in the gap around the base with caulk or something.

I have used starboard--or other high density polyetheylene. A cheap cutting board works well. You can then scribe the pattern and file or cut it.

When I remounted my ScanStrut after having it powder coated, I used large diameter nylon washers, and nylon bushings to keep from having any metal touch the new powder coat. The washers were sized to shim, and then used BoatLife Caulk to seal around the perimeter and at the bolt holes. I did not use a wedge because I figured it was not necessary. If the weather is clear and I'm up on plane, the radar doesn't need to see close to me, and if there is fog, I will be on slow cruise or slower and the pattern will be working closer to me due to the cabin top being parallel with the water surface.
