Length for Teleflex cable on a 1985 22' Angler

What length cable should I order for my 22' Angler? The stamp indicating the length has worn off. I am not sure where to measure from... So if someone has some experience with this -I would appreciate the help.
 
I had a boat like yours and ordered a cable but not sure of the length. 21 feet sticks in my mind.
Measure from center of motor out to the corner of the transom. Then from there up to where the steering wheel is located, then in to the steering wheel. Add at least 2' to those measurements.
Do you know you need to remove the motor to get the motor end of the steering cable into the tilting tube. I hung it on a lift and took the bolts out so I could maneuver the motor around.

I will look on my boat today and see if i can see if they numbers are still visible.Tug
 
Just looked to see if i could find any numbers on my steering cable.My cable is bundled along with all the other wiring in a plastic sleeve, what parts of the steering cable i can see there are no numbers that i can tell. Would you not be able to just call the factory and ask them for that information.Tug
 
Last year I replaced the helm unit and cable on my '85 classic22'. I used a 3000 Steerflex rotary helm 520010. The cable is a Steerflex 462018 09 03, would guess that it is a 20' length. Man what a difference the new unit made.

Jack, I am not sure why you had to do that. I pull my Teleflex cable/rod end out of the tilt tube for maintenance, and it does not require removal of the engine. There are some good videos on YouTube for this.
 
I'll measure it out properly. Is it okay to use a used cable with a new helm?
 
i had my steering fail on my 22'. I could still steer left, but no right. I want to replace the Teleflex setup. Any advice?

The boat has twin 40HP Hondas. Its a 2002.

If you want to replace it with the same unit, it's pretty straightforward. Personally I prefer hydraulic, either Seastar or Baystar.

I am trying to make sure I get the right size.

I have to go home and get parts numbers later today. It is a almost new unit. steering head and cable. It came off a 22 cdory that was converted to hydraulic steering. Its just been sitting in my shop. what ever a new unit cost I will take half for it.
