I always wondered why C-Dory put the lefthand (counter rotating) gearbox on my starboard side of my Tomcat. My previous twin engine boats were the opposite. In speaking with a couple of propeller and boat dealers, I had mentioned this and they did not know why that would be.
Today, I had my props on another boat worked on. I spoke to the individual who manufactures props, speciallizing in props for boat racing (also with twin hulls). He said boats set up like the Tomcat make it easier to control in turns. So racing boats use the same set-up. But with drag boats, that race in a straight line, they use the standard set up of righthand prop on starboard and lefthand on port.
In another matter, I also noticed the center line of the front of my sponsons were almost 2" further apart than the aft section. He said "toe-out" is better than "toe-in" because it helps track straight.
