A month or so ago someone here put in a plug for LED Sensibulbs from sailorssolutions.com and I decided to give them a try.

I ordered two as replacement bulbs for the overhead lights in Valkyrie and when they came I found that I also needed adaptors to make them fit the OEM overhead light. I got those in short order and installed them yesterday afternoon and last night Marcia and I went to to give them a try. They work great and the light output is hardly distinguishable from the factory bulb. If anything, they area bit "softer" than the other bulbs.

They run $39.95 each and the adaptors are around $5 each. With their low battery usage they are a welcome addition to Valkyrie.

Thanks Nick - I was thinking of doing the same thing - what kind of adaptors did you need and where did you get them?

Google sailorssolutions.com and give Nick (no, it's not me) a call. Have the bulb from your boat with you and when you describe what you have, he will send the proper adaptor. They are very good people to work with.

In fact, while talking with Nick, he mentioned using sensibulbs for other projects. I have a couple brass kerosene anchor lights and am going to adapt one to use one of their bulbs. I'll get a battery pack using c-cells and somehow adapt the kerosene reservoir to hold them and run the wire through the wick area. This would be for cockpit lighting, not for use as an anchor light.

Just got off the phone with Nick at Sailor Solutions in NY. I ordered a trial bulb for the interior of Anna Leigh. He is willing to offer a 10% discount to any of the C-Brats. Just mention you are a C-Brat. Their website is HERE
This discount is only for the Sensibulb LED. These bulbs have a special little feed back circuit which keeps them from going dim as they are used.

I just ordered 4 Sensibulbs and 4 of these adapters http://www.sailorssolutions.com/index.asp?page=ProductDetails&Item=SENBA. Nick did indeed give a 10% discount for C-Brats, so give him a call if you are interested. He was very helpful.

Once I get the Sensibulbs put in the boat I'll have all the lights, save for the running lights, running LED bulbs. The total cost for all this was about $200. Cheaper, lighter weight, and simpler than adding batteries...
 
I'll have to remember this when the time comes. Thanks for doing the research.

On a similiar note: I just replaced the Xenon bulb in my small work flashlight with a white LED unit. Man, the difference. :o MUCH brighter & whiter and it should increase the battery life significantly. And all for $19.
 
Be very careful when you install the Sensibulbs of the two little wires that are soldered to the board and have the plug on the end that goes into the adapter. I broke one of the solder joints and had to re-solder one. The light seems to put out just about the same light as the incadescent that it replaced.
