Well, this has sure been a disappointing last few hours of the weekend. Been packing the boat, checking the engines, tires, etc. Then I noticed the left rear tire was flat, big surprise since I just had the boat out 2 weeks ago and the tires are only 8 months old.
Pulled the tire, found a rusty roofing nail in the tread, will take it in to be fixed in the morning, no problem. Then I looked at the rotor on that wheel, wow, last check it was just a little rusty, this time the plating surface is 1/3 gone on both sides, all that's left is the base iron in those areas. And to add to that, my nearly new ceramic brake pads are 2/3rds gone due to the rotor situation. I will order 4 wheels of SS rotors and new pads tomorrow, but is not a quick turnaround to get the parts or put them on. Plus, last check a few years ago, Pacific Trailer would not sell me SS rotors, said they warp. But other mfr's sell them and report they work just fine. So we'll see if I have to go to another vendor for them.
There are a few mild hills (3,000 ft) on this trip, but I'm leery of a 600-700 mile trip to risk possibly more damage to the disc braking parts, like the calipers (after it eats through the pads...).
Soooooo, it's not looking good for me and my boat.
Hey Roy, do you still need a buddy to keep your dog company?
