Lake Merwin

I am interested in learning about Lake Merwin in Southern Washington. It looks like a nice cruising lake. I also see there is a camping area called "Lake Merwin Camper's Hideaway." The website for the Hideaway isn't great but it strikes me as an ownership campground for RV/trailers similar to the Port Susan Camping Club. Anyone know about it?

I fish Merwin, usually launching at Speelyai (spee lee eye) now that my cousin has sold his place at Camper’s Hideaway. There is no overnight parking at Speelyai, but there is public camping at Cresap. I am not sure if that ramp is open anymore, ditto on the dock. A relatively small lake, maybe 8-10 miles long. There are a couple coves to hang on the hook, but it’s generally open water. Weekends can be busy, but it’s not obscenely so.

Fishing for Kokanee is good, but there are pike minnows. Stocked with tiger muskies to control the trash fish.

I think Swift Reservoir further up the river would be better cruising, but there are lots of trees and other debris coming down river from Mt St Helens.

Yale Res in the middle gets the majority of the go fast crowd because of multiple launch sites.

hey there, Steve summed it up pretty good, Merwin is a good place to wet a prop and catch a fish but a bit small for cruising.
Campers Hideaway is an owners RV campground that always has some interesting units for sale. I always thought it would be neat to have place there to use as a permanent address for a retirement basecamp....but as a campground, it doesn't look like it can be considered a home address.

Ken, I believe their bylaws limit the amount of time you can stay at the Hideaway. It may be because of how the business is structured. It’s also steeper than a cow’s face getting down to the ramp.
