King Trailer with bunks

GREETINGS FROM THE SNOW COVERED NORTH.
I was wondering if anyone knows the setup for a King trailer with bunks for a 1983 22 ft CD.
I have ordered a new trailer and it is coming by barge from America with an aluminum skiff on it. I am not sure where the axles will be placed or how far back the winch post will be set from manufacturer.

Any info on this would be a great help before I load my Dory on it and find out that I have 1500 lbs on the tongue.

From much correspondence on this site over the years it seems the ideal tongue weight is between 5 and 10%, heavier being better I believe.
As for axle position (the fulcrum) to achieve this elusive ideal tongue weight/trailer handling - well, it seems if you can answer the "meaning of life" you can probably figure it out.
I have been through the same dilemma twice, dealers seem to lose interest as soon as the trailer leaves the lot. Trial, error, money, time and frustration all seem to come to mind.
I hope you have good luck on this one.

Cheers - Dave

I would think that the King folks would have the trailer set up for a C-Dory as the bunks have to match the bottom of the boat....if they knew that...and set up the bunks for a C-Dory they would also have the axles close to the proper position...... we'all have to fine tune our trailers to get the exact position of the axles... it would be different for almost every boat...one with single engine vs one with twins...generator...dive compressor etc... luckily it is easily done... with a floor jack, some jack stands and a bathroom scale..
(don't tell your wife) I think the instructions are in the Tech section of this site..

If its a dualaxel trailer just let me know and I will go out and measure mine. That should get you close or at least let you know that the trailer is already close.

Due to the flat bottom of a pre 87 axle, winch and bunks will be different than a newer model. I know Jon on C-Lou has a 86 Angler on a King bunk trailer.
My trailer is at King getting my bunks aligned for my 25. They were never set right and the boat was riding on the trailer wheel wells. The folks at King are nice to work with and I am sure if you called them they would help you. They also said they have the settings for most CDorys and they may have your boat setup also. I would give them a call.

I have the King tandem Bunk trailer.
I did some changing on the bunk placement and it works well. The 83 has to be set flat ac cross. work them around to get the lowest set possible. I also set the two inside ones about 3-4 inches apart . the center keel will slide inbetween them and center on the trailer easily. I had them farther apart at first and it was hard to center her.
I may be able to post some pics Wed. when I get back home from my short vacation.

T Lats -

The first photo in my album (C-gull) has a pretty good shot of my 82' classic with a dual king & bunks. I didn't set up the trailer but it seems to work great. Maybe those pics will help with your setup.

Good to hear from a fellow Alaskan.

Thanks for all the replies, I guess my biggest dilema is just waiting for the trailer to get here.

Once again thanks for the help and if need be I may contact you for more info.

Good Day!!
