Rodger, I have been on two jurys. One was a civil trial. A lady slipped on some water at an Indian resteraunt in the U district. Not to go into the three weeks of testimony but it was a mind numbing experience. The women had a nondisplaced fracture of her sacrum and she was asking for 2.2 million dollars. After listening to all the experts from both sides and learning terms like undifferentiated somatiform disorder I was asking myself, what am I doing hear. It just seems that these issues could be taken care of in some other way instead of wasting taxpayers and the courts time. In the end our jury granted the women $86,000.
I was also on a criminal trial were the state was prosecuting a DUI suspect that payed a Seattle police officer a bribe not to arrest him. The main witness was the disgraced police officer who the suspect had bribed. He testified with a monitor braclet on, being he was still under house detention after he was released from prison. The defense was claiming entrapment but we ended up convicting him in the end.
I would do it again but I sure would try to avoid another civil trial.
