Three of us fished out of Half Moon Bay on the maiden tuna run for my CD22 this past Saturday. We trailered down to Pillar Pt Harbor the day before and got a slip for 2 days...a great way to avoid launch traffic and test out the cabin accomodations. At 4AM, we motored out 38 miles on flat water to our numbers and once there, we had a double on within 10 minutes. The bite continued all morning on jig strikes from 7:30AM to 1:00PM where we had 5 doubles, 3 triples and lost 4. We called it quits deciding 21 fish was enough and left them biting. One of my crew wanted to keep going, but keeping the fish chilled to sashimi grade was my first priority! The fish ranged from high teens to 30lbs. The bonus was that we were able to get them all cleaned, bagged and packed in crush at the docks so we could enjoy our BBQ and fireworks show! Hanapaa for CDory!

Sounds like you had a great 4th!

I may have seen you and your boat a few weeks ago. I saw CD22 heading south on 65 through Lincoln. My parents live in Lincoln and we were visiting.

Not sure how many CD's there are out here, but I have a beige stripe and twin Yamaha 50's. I will try to start an album one of these days.

So how long did it take to get out 38 miles offshore? And how long coming in? I know there are some long-time C-Brats who go Tuna fishing off the Oregon coast but I don't have enough ocean experience in the boat to try just yet. :oops:

Vern, the albacore are showing up off Oregon, too. A week ago the tuna water was at 70 miles, on Tuesday it was around 40 miles. I was out for salmon yesterday, and put two silvers in the boat. The water has been a bit rough. Hopefully the tuna will come in to around 20-25 miles, and the ocean will lay down a bit.

One of the boats here at Garibaldi put 60+ fish in the boat on Tuesday.

We motored out at dark and kept it at 15mph and then when light enough took it up to 22 - 25 mph. All total, it took us about 3.5 hours because we made one stop too early of the numbers.

We ran 4 rods (two off the shotgun rack) and two handlines, but pulled the handlines in early since we did not want to have everything go off at once and make a mess.

The warm water is still out there and we are watching and waiting for the next window!

We burned 41 gallons RT. We topped off both tanks and took two 6 gallon containers and came back with 18 gallons. Our numbers were 36 miles from port, so am guessing we ran a total of approximately 120 - 130 miles total.

There were no birds, but we did see some marks. We just went with numbers given to us from guys the day before.

The CD22 fishes tuna fine... when you get multiples, just keep it in a slow troll and your lines straight behind. Pull your short ones in first to avoid tangling.
