Jammin's Jungle Gym - Kayak Carrier - Radar Arch

Thanks RF: That's what I hoped for on the roof.

That place looks great. I'm always keeping an eye open towards a little waterfront place in SE, too. It's getting easier to justify considering Whittier just announced plans for a new 500 boat marina at the head of the bay and intends to cater to the 14,000 boats in Anchorage.

There goes the neighborhood. :crook

LOL!! Thats for sure :!: :!: Hey, see the new "Bratogether" thread when you get back from heaven  :cigar
I gotta go cut fish, I'm ottah here... :bat

I've posted three new pitures of Jammin's Jungle Gym.

Included are closeups of the bimini fittings I used to avoid drilling holes.

All the extra handhold area is nice.

I will replace the most crucial set screws with machine screws tapped through the tubing.

Not as pretty as arches but quite functional.

I've got a rack for the top that I've been humming over for two years, and have it at the welders right now. I hope to have photos soon.

The bars will need two 5 degree bends to clear the top of the roof line.

Here are the materials:

3 - 1" x 6ft. Stainless bars
4 - 1" x 125 deg. Stainless elbows
4 - 1" x 60 deg. Stainless post brackets (square base)
Loads of SS nuts and bolts
4 or 6 - Stainless backing plates for inside
5200 marine adhesive for weatherproofing.

I haven't decided if I need to support the thing in the center, but I've got these ready to go if needed:
2 - 1" x 90 deg. Stainless post brackets (square base)
2 - 1" x 90 deg. Stainless tees (hinged opening)

Almost all of the materials came from West Marine. The fasteners came from the hardware store (way cheaper).

I'm going with the 1" tubing so I can attach Yakima kayak racks straight to it. I will need rubberized spacers for a perfect hold, as the Yakima bar is ever-so-slightly larger than 1" diameter.

Finally got 'er bent, drilled, and mounted. Oops, that could sound bad on the wrong website.

Here's the photos. The machine shop decided to do a continous radius bend, instead of trying to do the two bends. Looks great, and I can't wait to put the Yakima racks and the kayaks on it. Thanks to everyone for the moral support and information. This site, and the people on it, are great.

Did you trailer your 25 down to La Paz or did you start from the top and cruise south?

Thanks,

Les
p.s. Someone who owned the sailboat must have been a Springsteen fan.

Blaine,
That really looks great. I have thought about making something just like yours to make a temporary rocket launcher. By using rail-clamp type rod holders. I made one very similar on my previous Arima and liked it. On the C-Dory I would like to be able to remove it. Will your cross bars come out of the base fittings or does the angle jam them up? I would like to be able to remove the cross-bar after a fishing trip and just leave the bases on the roof til the next trip.

Thanks for the kind words Cavu. I'm way proud. 3-years in the design phase, 3 days in the construction phase...

I would be a little afraid of regularly removing the rack from the bases since those tiny little set screws are pretty soft and can strip fairly easily. A set-up with cotter pins might be better for what you're thinking.

Go get 'em!
