I don't know about the company's liklihood to fail. Island Pilot has made cruising sailboats for years and introduced a "mastless" cruising boat, like a skinny trawler, with an enclosed helm and a sailboat-like open cockpit just forward of the helm. It is expensive, but very safe and certified for open ocean.
The new model seems to be designed to use the dual diesel gensets for offshore cruising and fast cruising. It is not designed to cruise indefinitely on batter power alone - just over a few hours on batteries alone.
I am wondering about the limitations introduced by all the horizontal surfaces covered with delicate solar cells. You won't be able to tie bikes, kayaks and the like on top, nor be able to get to them, it would seem. I wonder about the weight. It seems to me you could cruise OK using two 75 HP diesels with props.
Anyway, Kudos to the company for stepping out with some new thoughts!
