Bought an equalizer hitch, Will install today and leave for the Keys in the morning.
Daughter and Son in law are leaving Montana today. Rented a house on Islamorada with a slip. Two weeks, this is going to be tough duty, but heck we all got to sacrifice some time.

Side note: Grouper fishing was good yesterday. Went out of Cedar Key. Ended up with a dozen keepers. Seas were pretty lumpy, especially at 35 miles a hour. My spine is two inches shorter, But.........It was worth it.

Plan is to take a boat trip to the Dry Tortugas, swim with the dolphins, and a day in Key West. Lots of snorkeling in Pennacamp State Park.

Hi CaptD,

Islamorada is one of my favorite places in the Keys. If you can work it into your relaxing itinerary, supper at Loralie restaurant (on the beach, with live music) is a real treat. There is also an Outback restaurant (on the other side of the road, and further down) that has an outdoor seating area... great views out to the Atlantic, good wings and margaritas (my mouth is watering just thinking about it). And a shopping excursion to Outdoor World/Bass Pro Shop.

Keep us posted.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Thanks Jim,
Just read your post out loud. We will go to all suggested.
What a site we have here.

One question for anyone with the answer. In 1989 I had a steak dinner in Homestead. It was the best in my life. Looked like a roast shaped like a brick, and black. The place was full and everone order that steak................Anyone????????

Name, location, ???????

Not sure about the place in Homestead, but here is one more item for the Keys (Marathon)...

Looks like it's the end for the Overseas Bar and Restaurant. It's been a big part of the cruising community around Boot Key Harbor. It was last year during the Superbowl party there that we won the booze basket (and Dixie's sister took some of what was left from that with her last weekend). Another bit of "keysie" character going away.

Have a great time down there and keep us posted.

Best wishes,
Jim

CaptD,

Also, if you are in Marathon try the Cracked Conch Cafe right in A1A and walking distance from Boot Key Harbor. It's not on the water, but it's one of our favorite restaurants.

Sit on the patio in the back and ordered the cracked conch platter. Their conch serviche and chowder is excellent, too.

Have a great trip.

Most likely the restaurant you are referring to is the "Capri Restaurant" which is actually in Florida City, just south of Homestead. Its' address is 935 N. Krome Avenue, Florida City. It has been in business since 1958 and is extremely well known for it's steaks, seafood, Italian pasta etc. etc. Apparently it has recently been renovated.

(If you go there to eat and find the steak to be to your satisfaction, you may send me a "chunk of steak" as a finders fee.....LOL :wink ).

Hopefully this has been a help to a current Montanan, from a former Montanan, who has fortunately had the privilege to imbibe on many an excellent steak!

You will love the boat trip to Tortugas. I have wanted to take the trip for over thirty years. This past May we drove the RV to miles 0 of HWY 1 before heading north. Stayed three days around Key West.

We took the day long boat trip to Tortugas. Before going I thought the price was a little on the high side but after it was over decided that it was fair. They feed you breakfast and lunch plus provided snorkel gear. Swam with dolphins and tarpon. From mile 0 we drove north as far as the road would go.

Ended at Red Bay Labrador. The trip ended up being a total of about 9700 miles. A found a lot of places the I want to go back to with the C-Dory.

Wind, wind, rain, wind rain, wind. every day so far.
But today rain or shine we swim with the Dolphins.

Boat still on the trailer. After three days of looking found a ramp close by. I don't know how much water at the spot. No dock, so it will be , dump and go. No parking space so must send truck trailer back immediately.

Drove all the way to Florida City for a late lunch.........The Capri. It was a fantastic steak ( more than I could eat ) But was half the size of 20 years ago. And of course twice the money.

Damn!.....I logged on and saw that Captd had posted a message, so I quickly "clicked" on his message to see if he was telling me that he had just Fed X'd some of that fantastic steak, from Capri's for me finding the address for him.........bummer... ...no such luck....or should I say "no free lunch". (Actually, I saw the prices on their menu and didn't figure on receiving a steak in the mail....so, I merely stated it "tongue in cheek" (not "steak in cheek") :wink
