Is it spring yet?

So what part of our "spring" is much different from the current conditions. Its calm according to the marine report, the temp is pretty similar to some of our March temps and besides you have an enclosed cabin and heat. Don't let the month of the year stop you from going out for a day trip or an overnight. That's why we have C-Dory's. A trip over to Sydney Spit and a hike on the deserted trails, or maybe to Portland Island. Sounds like fun! Lets go. Oops wait a minute. I'm a 100k north and the other side of the strait. I guess you'll have to give George a call.
Cheers
Ron

Well, the ice in the channel in back of the house and around my boat docks is 4-5 inches thick. Enough that hardy souls have been sitting out there ice fishing. That won't last as the temps are supposed to reach 50 by Friday. But my C-Dory is stored in a warm building for the winter so I won't be trying it out as an ice breaker. So to answer the question for this part of Ohio, no, it's not spring yet.

If you are living in the northwest, its all in your head as you can encounter great (C-Dory) boating conditions any time of year.

You will never see them if you don't get up and go.

Just go.

Going to give the new Webasto a real test, heading for Sucia the weekend of January 15 - 17 (have the 17th off), if the winds cooperate. Give me a cold sunny winter day over a drizzly cold spring day any time!

So Pat, where do you find those cold sunny winter days in the PNW? I sure don't find many of them up here! Maybe that imaginary line at the border is magic as well and creates more of those cold sunny days. :wink

Buy yourself a motorcycle and try commuting and riding year-round.
You will start to notice those dry winter days and any dry one hour window of time that passes.

Wake up each day wondering how the riding will be. Worked for me 14 years ago and still works today. With all the live radar websites at our disposal, its actually possible to avoid the rain entirely for short rides at least.

The nicest weather usually occurs while we are indoors... Because most folks are indoors too much.

I read once that fishing is like dating. It's tough to get lucky if your not on the water. I guess that would apply to boating and weather as well.

What's a "sunny day". :? Please explain. I haven't seen many of those since about July '99 when I reluctantly moved here from Paradise.

Looks like a possibility for this weekend. We will be out regardless. Unless it really storming, Aurelia likes to wander.

I think the days are starting to get longer here in Ontario, dark out here now and its only 5:30PM.Think i will have to crawl under the boat canvas and sit in the boat for awhile. Wish i was at my sister's in Mission BC with my boat, i would be out fishing for sure.Tug

Yeah, I might give the San Juans a try for some blackmouth. The fishing has been good in area 7 and the fish have been bigger this year. Need to look at the wind forecast but I also heard it might be sunny! :thup

Here in Redding and on Shasta lake, on the days it doesn't rain and the sun's out during the winter, you can go out on the lake between 9:30 and 3:30, and usually are comfortable in a t-shirt and long pants, unless the winds up pretty good.

Makes for some nice afternoons fishing. :wink Sometimes I just go out and sleep sitting up in the cabin in the sun. :smiled

It's often nice weather for the SBS. I took this pic of the C-Brats Argosy cruise coming through the Ballard locks at SBS 2007.

Here's wishing you all fair weather for SBS/CBGT 2011.

No it is not spring yet, at least up here it is not.

But........did you hear the big SWISH on Dec.22????

The big swish is the sound all of the salmon make turning around on winter solstice and head back to Alaska. I will be waiting for them in the spring with my bag of tricks. :D

Well, we found several sunny winter days in February 2004, when we took our First Birthday Cruise on Daydream the CD22...

Pat's right. I never realized a phenomenon that occurs up here in Seattle nearly every year until my old boss, who happened to be from Germany, pointed out that every late January, early February, we have a week to 10 days of sunny 50-60 degree weather. People start thinking spring is here and then of course, the rains come back for another two months or so. Every year thereafter, when I took the time to notice, I realized that he was right.

Sooo... Mark, when we get that nice little "false spring" in late Jan/early Feb, remember that I mentioned it here. I'm certainly waiting for it. In fact, we too have some pics from February 2006 where we were enjoying our first winter with C-Dancer.
