Ahhh...nuttin' like discovering a little irony while cleaning the garage.

I'm sure a few of you were handed these at the SBS...who else noticed?

Last thing I'd want to do, is ruin the long-running Daily Laugh thread...so yeah, I split this away from there.

My apologies for posting it there to begin with, but we don't have a "Daily Pathetic Observation" thread - nor do we really need one.

most likely purchased using a competitive bid system
Low bidders wins the order
I see it daily
Devil is in the details when submitting RFQ

There are rules in place for a lot of things, but sometimes a contractor inadvertently makes a mistake and they don't get followed.

Feds may take back Puget Island ferry money

Lots of editorial comments concerning the above in local media can be found on the web if you want to look for them. My opinion is strong, but this is an ironic thread and not a political one (as I'm certain it will remain :smile), so I'll keep it to myself.

Well since the taxpayers money (your money and mine) paid for it, do you want them to spend more for Made in the USA?

I'd like it if they spent less still, and didn't buy any at all.

My company use to be a vendor to the Congressional gift shop. We were manufacturing baby bibs with a screen printed congressional seal. The shop policy was to "Buy American".

I recall the shop buyer struggling to find a US manufacturer for a reversible tote bag. We considered making one for them but the volume was just too small.

BTW: There are plenty of vendors relabeling "Made in USA" :thdown

Some years ago we were in Slovakia buying cut glassware for gifts. We saw some we liked labeled "Poland". We told the clerk we were looking for glass made in the Czech Republic. Without skipping a beat he ripped off the "Poland " label and stuck on a "Czech" one.

that re-labeling stuff really burns my biscuits
and it takes time to return items and reorder from a different vendor

btw
There was a big writeup on this same topic yrs ago in the Indpls Star b/c a IN city bought some Toyota cars at lower competitive bid than US automaker (GM, Ford, etc). The reporter went to the dealer to examine the preferred vehicles which I believe it were Chevrolet and documented dozens of parts made outside of the US. The lion was tamed and we live in a global market
