Introducing "Carpy"

Hello Everyone,
I have finally posted some pictures!
After lurking on the web site for a year or more, I bought a 22 cruiser in December of 2009, the former "T-K Grand". I spent the summer of 2010 as sort of my shakedown season. I took trips on the Ohio River, Lake Michigan, 2 trips to the Mississippi, met a wonderful bunch of Brats at the Guttenberg Gathering, and finished the season on lake Barkley and the Cumberland River. It was a good season, I learned a lot, got the kinks out of the boat, and spent a bunch of money. We all know the definition of a boat!
Over the winter I made several modifications and rechristened her "Carpy" (using the denaming and chrsitening ceremonies from the C-Brat archives) "Carpy" comes from my new motto "Carpe Diem, Vita Brevis" which I have assumed after a few adventures with my and other's mortality.
We started this year with a 2 week trip to Florida on the beautiful St John's River. The weather was mixed, but warm and we were snug and comfortable in Carpy's cabin. We had a great time.
This year we have plans for the Erie Canal and a return to Guttenberg and to see some more of the Mississippi. With all the rains this spring in the midwest, we are flooded out of the Ohio and Muskingum Rivers for the near future. The cajun loop was very appealing too, maybe next year.
I have greatly enjoyed the C-Brat site! It is a fabulous source of information, not only about C-Dories, but all manner of things nautical.
You're a great bunch of people. My son lives in Olympia WA and on a visit in 2008, I asked for an introductory ride and within a day had a number of offers. I spent a most pleasant day on Lake Washington aboard "Bootleg Hotch", and started shopping for a C-Dory.
Anyway, I'm through lurking and I'll be posting pics of future (and past) adventures, and I'll be looking for you all out on the water.

Nice mods Bruce! I especially like what you did under the galley. It's evident you borrowed a lot of good ideas from some talented brats as well as coming up with your own original ideas. Great execution, Great job! :thup

Just chiming in to echo Peter's comments. Nice job. Perhaps I'll get to see Carpy in person one day since you're more or less in the neighborhood.

The boat and photos look great Bruce. When are you planning your Erie Canal cruise and any particular section? Kay and I want to put in at the Widewaters canal park near Palmyra, NY in June and cruise west until we decide to turn around. Maybe we will get a chance to meet you when you are out this way.

Great looking boat you have ther Bruce. Now if you trailer it out here we can cruise Lake Washington and other places in tandum. Happy that it worked out for you

Hello Bruce,

Great looking outfit.

Looks like you have a copilot (good for you) hopefully we will meet her this fall.

Looking forward to seeing you (and Monte?) again this fall at the Mississippi River Gathering in Guttenberg, Iowa.

Best regards,

Ron, Connie, Bear & Dolly Fisher

Beautiful job on modifications! Alot of time and effort for sure, but definitely worth it. Lots of them I want to do, too. Darn fishing gets in the way!
Thanks for all the neat pictures!

Bruce,

Nice albums. That's Too %8#!*^ close to that gator thing. I'd been out there. Turn on that double blender and make wake.

Nice modifications. the drawers under the helm seat. I have them and love them. So handy. I like what you did with the seat, to fold down flat. Did you move it out towards the center of the boat to put in the "catch all"? It looks like it sticks farther out into the "hall" space than my does. Did you have to do that to get it to fold flat? Love what you did under the galley. Really made some space. Any concerns about the proximity of the grill to the gas fill and vent?

Hope all is well, and at some point we get to cross wakes. Who knows?

Hello Everyone

Wow, what a lot of great mods to make right out of the gate!

I am a bit confused about this mod, though:

How did you get the lazarette cover to bend and how did you attach the bulkhead that the hatch is in to the hull?

Warren

Thanks, Everyone for your kind remarks about Carpy's mods. As I'm sure you recognize most have their roots in the C-Brat albums.

In collective reponse:

My Erie canal trip is based around a family gathering on Lake Cayuga in August. We may find our way up to Oswego or ?
Annalee, I like your bankrupcy comment, maybe we can meet up another time.

Chuck, Someday, I'm going to trailer out to the PNW, It's on the list! I'm going to take the scenic route and I'll need most of a summer so It's not going to be this year. But, I'll be there.

The gators are soo close thanks to photo editing! They were little guys, only 4-5 'ers. We saw some 12' + gators but we both avoided one another. I was a bit worried about my "gator bait" dog, especially after people at a marina said they can snatch a dog off a dock 2 feet or more off the water.

The bent hatch is indeed a shadow; it's the old flat factory lazzerette cover. The new one is a Bomar 8 x 12 BOMG781222. It fits with minor shaving and just covers the old screw covers. It doesn't have the annoying constant ring of water around it. I paid 51.14 ea from Boatersland Marine. wwwboatersland.com

I'm looking forward to Guttenberg, hope to see lots of you there,
