Installation of raymarine E120 GPS/Chart/adar on 25 Cruiser

I just bought a 25 Cruiser and also a Raymarine E120 Nav display. Has anyone mounted one of these units on a 25 Cruiser? If so where and how? The reason i asked, and it's too late now as i bought the unit already, is it weights 17lb and is 14" by 10". It is bigger and heavier than i thought.

Any help would be great before i start drilling holes.

I have the C80 in our 25 and I think most 25' owners have installed the 80 size screen. If you go to " Our C-Dorys" section above and start scrolling the the albums of 25' owners you might be able to find a photo of an E120 installation. Good luck and welcome aboard.
 
Maybe you could make a custom bracket that would allow you to mount the E120 right on the dash, or nearly so? Hank on Sea Skipper made a custom bracket for his E80 that sits at least an inch lower than the standard bracket. I used a template that Raymarine had (like a photo of the E120 and E80) to try the fit of each. As you have found, the 120 is a lot of real estate. The E-series is also deeper than the C-series, further limiting options. If you can't do a swap and are determined to use the 120, you could also raise the helm seat, allowing you to see over it better. If you are good at working with fiberglass, you could cut a notch in the dash and slightly recess the 120, even angling it up a bit.

I had the electronics shop install an E-120 on the Lori Ann (suspended from the overhead tray) but as soon as I saw it I knew I had made a major mistake -- it was right in my face due to the additional depth of the case. Fortunately the shop was able to swap it out for an E-80. Now I have moved that E-80 to the dash and have added a 2nd E-80 which can be used facing the navigator, the helm, or moved to the aft steering station. All of these are with RAM mounts.

If you can't make a switch to an E-80 I would suggest putting it on a RAM mount so you have some flexibility in customizing where it works best for you.

Check with Cathy and Jeff Brigner on C-Pearl down in Alabama. They put the E120 on their CD25. Nice set up...even when traveling with them during a gathering on the rivers....and watching the screen from the boat behind them. This IS a large screen event. I did have to ask Jeff to move his left hand a bit for a clearer view.

Here's a picture of the E-120 on C-Pearl. It actually works better on the C25 than on the Tom Cat but it reduces access to the center window.

I installed the radar display for Journey On hanging underneath the overhead shelf. It doesn't interfere with the view out of the windows, and there is a lot of real estate under that shelf. As a matter of fact, I installed the depth sounder next to the radar, in the centre, and the VHF radio went on the port side of the shelf. Not only does this give a clear LOS, but it also allows Judy to have a good view of the instruments, and she's the radio operator. It's hard sometimes to steer the boat, and monitor the instruments at the same time. This allow the nut behind the wheel to do the steering and the "other person" to do the instrument monitoring. Just like in the movies.

Use the same bracket that came with the instrument, and turn it upside down. Bolt it through, cause you'll hit a few waves. I also put a 12 V terminal srtrip up there to minimize the wires. Also, you can coil up the excess radar cable and throw it on the top shelf. Worked out great.
