If they only had C-dorys, fishing boats go down

If you are ever in Astoria, be sure and take the time to go to the Columbia River Maritime Museum there. It is worth a whole day.

Here is the link to their site:

If this works, you will be able to see the Coast Guard boat inside the front windows.

It is indeed a very cool experience.

Dad used to take his boat to Warrenton every summer, and we fished every weekend, and crossed the bar twice a day. It gave me a healthy respect for the water, but also confidence in my own abilities.

The marina at Warrenton usd to be filled to capacity, and to be sure you had a slip you paid for the whole year for two months use. Now the marina is more than half empty in the summer as the fishing has gotten so poor, and many of the businesses that support the sport and commercial fisherman are long gone.

Ya, the mouth of the Columbia is a interesting place...lot of history. Those butterfly boats that the commercial fishermen used in the days of yor always interested me....price of gas keeps going up we may see those again.

I miss hanging out in Ilwaco and giving Tyboo Mike a bad time out on the water.
