I second Joels comment!

If I could I would load up and head for Florida today. Maybe in a couple of years I can take the time to drive east and see these from my boat.

Bill,
Your anchored at the Cape Coral bridge. Also, don't worry about the weather now your in Florida, for you will find it is always perfect. Now the wind may pick up a little from time to time and a few mild cold fronts will move through, but they go by fast.

You guys need to slow down and enjoy the sights...your moving way to fast.

Rained on us some last night. Been slow going today because of manatee zones. We are tied off at a nice public dock for the night in Ft. Lauderdale unless they ask us to move. We ate lunch at a very nice restaurant in Palm Beach and while eating we saw a 25' C-Dory pass by.

According to our charts we are about 145 miles from Key West. Guess we have a few more days before we arrive.

Bill and Ed toured Key West most of the day after imposing on a restaurant dock (Eat It Raw) oyster bar.

Dr Bill Jr and I arrived about 6:00 PM at a public ramp near the end of Simonton St. and loaded "Falcon" along with two old tired raggedy men.

Bill plans to post a short summary of the adventure in the next day or so.

Home now in its warm comfortable atmosphere and reunited with Brenda one can relate to the intensity of such a long adventure, 30 days and 1695 miles.

The Adventure: Brenda could very well have been right that it's a mile to far and a day to long. Only a stubborn old man could have endured to reach our destination of Key West.

The C-Dory 22 "Falcon": The boat offered us shelter from the cold, the rain, the wind, and gave us confidence when the waves grew uncomfortable out of sight of land. The only problem was with the table that kept coming loose.

The Honda 75 HP: About 30 miles out of Apalachicola we hit a log or something and bent the prop. We switched to our spare prop and Wefing Marine put a new prop on in an overnight shipment from Honda, good service by good people.

The Garmin 188C GPS: Man even an ugly old man like me can navigate to anywhere with this thing. However the VHF radio on high can interfere with it so to solve this my son gave me a hand held radio for Christmas that eliminated the problem and also gave us shore communication with the boat.

Anchoring: It seems like there is always a better place to anchor. Sometimes we would just anchor a safe distance from the ICW, sometimes we would find a nice little protected cove, but most of the time we would anchor near other boats at anchor.

Marinas: After we reached the ICW at Morgan City marinas were easy to locate with the help of our GPS.

Food: The Wallas stove was cranked up every morning for coffee, toast, and eggs. Other times marinas often had restaurants close by, some just nice and some elegant and expensive.

Hygiene: Motels near marinas were taken advantage of and some marinas have showers but don't depend on them so we set a routine that worked and no one was thrown overboard. It seemed that the boat was always wet and all our efforts to dry out were met with more rain and high waves.

Weather: High winds prevented us from launching on two occasions and possibly should have kept us tied off even more and prevented some uncomfortable crossings of the big bays.

Bill & Ed,
Thumbs up to you both for trusting your dory and making the trip. You kept us all entertained with your fowarded reports. When you get a chance we would like to hear some numbers on gas, range and the such. Also, it's about time you asked the Admin's for a photo album and posted some pictures of your adventures and your bride who did such a great job keeping us all informed of your where abouts.

Bill,

I also enjoyed following your story and travels. When/if you have the time, it would be great to see some photos and a longer write up. I still fondly recall the day that we took you out on the sound last year after the SBS and factory gathering. You and Brenda missed a great factory dinner this year.

Best,
Roger

Cathy and I enjoyed watching your progress and kept you two fellers in our thoughts. If I forgot to give her the update she would always ask what you guys were up too and where you were at. I'm glad you got to make that adventure and hope to accomplish something like that myself someday. Congratulations ! :thup

Yeah, Bill, how about it? Get a photo album set up. Like everyone else said, we'd love to see some pics. Congrats on a successful journey!

Rick & Donna

Great to see you back safely in the arms of your lovely bride. I know that wonderful smile had to warm you. Guess you know I was only kidding about Brenda and me traveling and enjoying nice weather while you and brother Ed were being bounced and blown about the area. ... Some of us were just circled about during the Seattle trip and we could not resist.

Looking forward to our next visit together. Thanks for tossing the lines and getting out and keeping us posted. That is what these C-Dory boats are for...
