'between Nov. 1 1972 and Aug 1 1984, was one scheme
Since Aug 1 1984 it is first 3 letters are the manufacture--there are at least 6 for C Dory's
The next 5 numbers are the serial number--in the C Dory line the first 2 are the size and the next 3 are the hull number built (some are the # that year or that manufacture). The next two digits are a letter A-L (Jan thru Dec, for the month when the hull was started the next number is the year hull was started, and the final two numbers are the year model.
For example my boat is: CDO (C Dory )25 (length) 625(625th 25 by Reynolds CDO) A7Hull started in January 2007 . 07 model year 07
Manufacturers:
MFN Marben Marine,
DOR was the original Toland [pre Reynolds] -
CDO Reynolds;
UWH was Fluid Marine after Reynolds.
CMC Trident marine after Fluid
NWM is Northwest Marine Industries [current owners]
Also included are: GXK, MFN, CCR, MEH Not sure how these really fit in--but one was the cape cruiser.
I will not confuse the issue with boats prior to Aug. 1 1984
In Roger's case, something is wrong with the "05" Could that be a "C" 5 meaning that your boat was started in March 1995?
