How NOT to tow...

OMG....it looks like the cab in the truck was crushed when it came down.

Napoleon measures 13' from the road to the top of my fixed GPS receiver. Typical highway clearance is 13'6". That makes for some hairy tow's....

Admission:

I came within three ft. of doing the same thing while pulling in to gas up at a truck stop towing my 5th wheel RV. That particular lane (and ONLY that lane) had a crossbar prohibiting tall vehicles. Didn't notice it until almost too late. Had I not noticed, we would have had a bedroom with a view. I can empathize with that poor soul.

  :amgry

I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed page two of your photobucket album. Thanks.

 Those were posted for another site I frequent that involves air-cooled VWs. An old threat titled "Would you hit her?"...the answer was quite obvious, if only in my fantasies.

Damm!! I had just tied a 12 ft microwave dish on to the back of another guys truck after transferring from my truck. We where in the parking lot of a hotel in Battle mountain nv. There where three was out of the parking lo that he could have taken, only one goes under a cover. He choose the wrong one and destroyed the dish as he pulled thru the lobby drive way.

Tom, I hope he paid you in cash before he drove away!

Tom -- Two of our kids live in the SFB area, so we have driven I-80 from Iowa to SF for a dozen years. Over those years Nancy and I have called Battle Mountain, NV, the armpit of the world. We loved it a few years ago when their misguided Chamber of Commerce capitalized on their obvious strengths and adopted "armpit of the world" as the town's motto, complete with billboard on I-80. By the way is hotel an appropriate term for an establishment in Battle Mountain?

Speaking of BM - don't overlook the "RV park" hidden behind the truck stop. But they used to have "Dotties Cafe" - great breakfast and the best cinnamon rolls coast to coast.

Wow! That had to have been fatal. Any details on how many people were in the tow rig?

No info at all. A good friend of mine just sent me the video. Looks like a bank drive thru lane or similiar. I can only imagine and hope no one was seriously injured. It looks like the cab did take some of the damage/weight, but only a partial blow. For just a split second you can see the driver look back and up as if to say "WTF?" then realize..."NOOOOOOO!" just before the roof collapses.

I was in battle mountain when I was 18 . I was amazed at the menu in the restaurant in town. You see I picked up the wrong menu. instead of looking into the large dinner menu I picked up the small black one that I thought was for lunch, well depending on how you want to spent your lunch hour. It was a list of acts preformed by very nice young woman on the second floor. They got paid good too. I just had the great steak that was for cheap.

I showed this to a friend at work and he said that his understanding of the incident was there were only minor injuries. It looks like it clipped the first foot of the RV and probably the roof collapsed on the tow rig a little more than door deep.

"A list of acts perfomed"? Dinner theater? :?

We came within INCHES of doing something similar to our 25 leaving Eddie Vine at Shilshole - had gone under the RR bridge with the 22 numerous times, thought we would try going up with the 25. Something clicked in Patty's mind and she shouted 'STOP!!!!" I did, and had we not stopped we would have sheared off our radome, ripped off the arch and destroyed our cabin roof! Then, in the midst of traffic, we had to back out of there. Not one of my finer moments, to say the least!
