Hood Canal sites

It appears we're going to be cruising the Hood Canal next week with a starting point at Belfair. We'll end it at Brownsville, near Bremerton. What are the "can't miss" stops along the Hood Canal, aside from a certain nuclear sub base. (I hear they serve 3 hots and a cot).

I would spend a night in Pleasant Harbor Marina. It's a nice little spot and they used to have pizza from Seabeck Pizza - if they don't have the pizza, you can get it from Seabeck Pizza over at SeaBeck Marina. Pleasant harbor has some really cute house boats that they rent out - see House Boats 4 Two. Joyce and I stayed there for our 15th wedding anniversary (now almost 13 years ago). There's a fuel dock, a nice little store, a pool and whirlpool and up the hill, a golf course. It's a very nicely protected harbor.

On the North end, I love Port Ludlow. I often run over there when I'm fishing Pt. No Point. They have decent food and a good bar - perfect for lunch on a cold day of black mouth fishing. It's also a good place to stage from for shrimping. If you want a place to stay in a hotel with the boat nearby, the resort there is first rate. Nice fireplaces, good food and wine etc. I've stayed there a few times. Just super. Once you get much south of Brinnon and Duckabush, my knowledge runs out.

Can't say much about going INTO the Hood Canal, but I will second Roger regarding Port Ludlow. It is the quietest marina I have ever visited and definitely one of the most relaxing. The Harbor Master restaurant is nothing fancy but the food is good. The restrooms at the marina are first rate. There is golfing nearby and a very nice restaurant and resort, but not much else...thus the reason why it is so quiet.

Best of luck,

Not far south of Brownsville is Port Orchard, and if in the area, stop by and see Kitsap Marine and say "Howdy" to Matt Guernsey (a frequent contributor here), and a great supporter of C-Brats and their vessels. Blake Island is worth a stop, I think, just at the south end of Bainbridge Island.
